Blaze Foley's (Lucinda Williams's "derelict in duct-taped shoes" -- the subject of "Drunken Angel") song "If I Could Only Fly" sounds nothing like a Paul song, but the line "Sometimes I write happy songs, and sometimes little things go wrong," sounds like something Paul would write. I'd like to hear him cover it.
(I am pretty sure Grandpaboy's taped together wardrobe is inspired by Blaze.)
