What a great tour this has been! Granted, I only saw Austin, and have only seen both the Mat's and Paul in Austin, (with the exception of a mid-eighties debacle in Houston). Hopefully Paul's personal and professional life will prosper, and he'll tour again soon, with or without a band. I hope he also continues on his incredible string of writing and recording that he's done lately. It's been great reading about all the other shows on this BB.
Like a fine bottle of wine, I hope he ages (not necessarily mellows) gracefully, and has a happy family/spiritual life. I'd like to think he can keep doing it like a Neil Young or Dylan, not a pathetic farce like the Who or the recent Stones have become. Middle age affects different men in different ways. I'm a year and a half younger than Paul, and can relate to his musical & life growth.
This tour was great. I finally got to get "on the bus", meet Paul & the band, give him a cigar, and get my picture taken with him. Made me feel like a teeny-bopper, like when I was 13 and first met folks like Bon Scott, Tommy Bolin, Cheap Trci, and Blue Oyster Cult, etc. I thank Kathy, the Skyway folks, Color Me Impressed.com and the other folks who spend the time to devote webspace to our poet and idol. My middle aged years have been blessed by meeting some of you folks who are my age, older, and younger, and are drawn to Paul's music. I've seen tons of rock & country shows from the '70's to the present, but my favorite shows have always been Paul shows (though the 26 Toadies shows I went to in the '90's were a close second). Paul's "fans" are always of a higher caliber than your average concert goers, and there seems to be this great camraderie, as we know we're onto something special, that the rest of the world doesn't get, or hasn't had the opportunity to get. I've turned on many people to Paul/Mat's who had never heard of either of them, and now they're rabid followers.
Though Paul is a Midwesterner, he has a following nation and world-wide. Minnesota can no more claim him, than we here in TX can claim Willie, Waylon, Buddy Holly, Stevie Ray, ZZ, The Rev. HH, or The Butthole Surfers. Paul belongs to the world.
Anyway, I'm rambling, but just want to thank all you folks, and lets hope that Paul will continue to come out of his basement every few years with a new CD and tour, either solo or with a tight band. "We'll get down on my knees, and we won't care who sees, and to hell with them that laugh, and we'll tell the ones that ask"..........

What a great tour this has been! Yes, I have enjoyed following all the tour reports, and like you I only saw one show. By most standards it would be considered a short tour, but he did pretty much hit all the major bases. Except for that Nashville cancelation, the tour seemed to go without major glitches. Obviously, it could have gone on and on, but summer's almost here and Paul say's he's needed at home. I'd be curious if Paul keeps this band lineup intact for future shows. I got the impression that they were really functioning as a band and not just a bunch of sidemen as the '96 lineup. Cf

David,
thanks for the nice, hearfelt post. The Folker Tour has been a blast and I've enjoyed reading the fans' concert reviews, and the whole excitement of Paul being out on the road with a band. I got to meet some MWT'ers along the way who were very nice and cool, and I finally got to meet Paul and Michael B.
And of course, Paul is not just claimed by his hometown, although I'd think he's a beloved local boy who made good, he's loved by a lot of fans nationwide and even in Europe. His songs certainly deserve to be heard by a wide audience---he shouldn't be a best kept secret.
I'll anxiously wait to see what Paul does next and hope he'll feel inspired enough to hit the road again soon. And now that the Folker tour has finished up, I think I'm getting the post Folker Tour blues. It was comforting to know that Paul was out of the basement and out on the road having fun with a killer band, playing for his fans and making us all very happy.
But until he comes around again, the song is over and I'm left with only tears, searching for a note pure and easy, playing so free like a breath rippling by....
(apologies to Pete Townshend)

I, like most people on this board, have nothing but thanks and appreciation for the Folker tour. I wish I could have had the time to catch more shows, but being able to only see PW and HOF's here in Denver with four of my best friends, and having flat out the time of our lives, is priceless.

Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! Who's with me?

I too am sad it's over, I really enjoyed reading people's thoughts after they saw a show. Hope he tours again in the not so distant future. I saw the opening night in Vancouver and after the show got a photo with him and got Paul to sign some of my concert posters, one being from 1993 a show that got cancelled because he had hurt his back on that tour. As we talked about that we shook hands and I said to him please don't be 12 years again coming back here and he looked me in the eyes and said ' Don't worry-- We'll be back '. Lets hope that he does tour again. It was a great show in Vancouver and it sounds like the whole tour was great. Thanks Kathy for this also great page. RANDY

Anyone else having trouble adjusting to real life again?
I only went to two shows-- big by my standards (well, I did cover three states to get to one)--lightweight compared to everyone else here. (FAF you are my hero.) I too enjoyed reading the post show reviews, breathing a sigh of relief that Paul didn't knock himself unconscious from flying guitar shrapnel. (Might have been close a few times). 'Trainwrecky' and 'Gary's Got a Boner is the new Freebird' are now a part of my daily vocabulary--though most people have no idea what I'm talking about. I've been spoiled. I can't think of any other fans so accepting of each other. Or any other artist, gimped legged, in the rain, exhausted after a two-and-a-half hour show, eating a sandwich(?), who would bother to stick around for hugs and autographs.

Especially the part about the rain. I know we've had some wacky weather this spring and Paul was very generous to hang around in crappy, cold, weather to say hello to the fans. In DC, he came out to meet us, rather than us going to the bus. It was raining prettysteadily and he came out and didn't have a raincoat or umbrella or anything (while munching on that sandwich ). Someone staffer at the club asked him if he wanted a raincoat or something and he said, "No, I'll just share an umbrella with this person" and stood under a fan's umbrella. Yeah----I think I got the post-Folker blues now.

Yeah it hasn't even been 24 hours and I'm having a hard time adjusting to real life. Its weird that I'm not going to be hopping on a plane or driving cross country to a show in two weeks. Two weeks ago was NYC and two weeks before that Milwaukee and Chicago. The fans I have met have been amazing. Even though I went to the majority of the west coast shows alone, I never really felt alone. And the people from the board that I have met, I've had a blast with them, never a dull moment when meeting MWTers! And the shows have been some of the best I've seen. They're never exactly the same and you get some intimate experience at each one you're at. Whether its a lyric mishap that makes you giggle or an emotional admission by PW. Orlando for me was a great way to end the tour. While it was not the best of all the shows I'd seen the experience was wonderful. Getting to chat more with PW this time as I wasn't as nervous with a group at the meet and greet. Getting to hang with Michael B and meeting Jim was great as well. And the people from the board there were a lot of fun. It was a great group and a really fun night.

Nice one A Reg. It's not over, it's just a temporary lull. I'm thinking of starting an internet petition, those kind you get with the email hoaxes, DEMANDING an encore performance.... say, how about Chicago over the 4th of July, or maybe MPLS over Labor Day? OK, Cincinnati on Halloween. I could settle for that.

I just hope we don't have to wait another 7 - 9 years to see the man live again. There's just something special about seeing Paul live. I mean I think that at the shows, just about everyone there must be a die hard fan. Paul may not have millions of fans, but the ones he does have are very hardcore!
I saw him twice this time around in San Francisco and Dallas and the energy was just incredible. Hard to describe my feelings I guess, but Paul is my favorite when it comes to live performances. Meeting him again "on the bus" (I spoke to him in Houston back in '96) was something I'll remember forever.
I think I even may have finally converted my wife! Dallas was her first PW show and she had a blast. I had to kind of drag her there so I wasn't sure if it was a good idea, but I'm sure glad I did.
Until next time Paul, thanks for the memories and all the great music...!
-Derek
p.s. - please keep Mr. Bland on the drum stool! Watching and listening to him play was fantastic!!
