Is anyone going besides me? For as big of a city as Atlanta is, with all the Midwestern and Northern transplants, I rarely hear anything from fans down here. We used to have quite a Mats following at one time, with the REM connection, as well as the Black Crowes (I think Chris Robinson once said something in an interview about sneaking into a Mats show in 1987 on the PTMM tour at the Metroplex).

I know several people, including 3 from the Bay Area that are flying in, another from Upstate NY and myself (from the Philly area) + at least 3 people based in the ATL area. I'm psyched! The show on the last tour at the Variety was great.

My wife and I will be there. Can't hardly wait! This'll be our fourth time seeing Paul (third without the Mats). Looking forward to seeing him with a band again. From what I've been reading on the board, the shows sound great! Any tips on parking? I've only been to one show at the Roxy a couple of years ago, and ended up paying way too much to some Buckhead parking lot vulture.

I'm very grumbly about this Atlanta show, I have a feeling it's going to be very good and much fun, so I want everyone who goes to make a pact to lie to us all the next day and tells us it sucked. 'kay?

'kay? You got some insider 411, there? I am about to leave the 'burbs and head down to the Roxy. I'll try to report back later, but my memory, like Paul's, is not so good.

Must have been a great show if everyone's sleeping in... Would love to hear some reviews!

I feel like I've been run over by a steamroller, probably a result of too many Sweeno noer 420's and Michael B's drumming, both of which were a good thing at the time. I'll report back later when I can think straight, but a few short notes...
The set list seemed similar to the one posted for Ashville earlier in the week. Opened with IOU. I listened to them soundchecking, playing a number of songs, including Monkey Man. My friend Frank and I ate dinner at a bar-b-que joint down the street and sat next to Rick Richards (GA Satellites), who ended up on stage playing guitar for Eyes Like Sparks. They played As Far As I Know, and toward the end I was actually shielding my eyes because I really thought that Michael B was going to shatter the cymbols on his kit. I've never witnessed anyone playing the drums with that much force before. Rick Richards even called him out on his way off the stage. They were in top form and good spirits throughout. Paul asked why we weren't at the Black Crowes show at the Tabernacle tonight - "seen it all before, right?" Bought an XL of the What Me Worry? t-shirt, as well as a child-size PW-Folker t-shirt/nightgown for my daughter. Drank too many Sweeno noers, enjoyed all the lovely young girls (and many in audience appeared to be college-age, which was encouraging!), unfortunately someone with a flatulence issue was nearby. Waited outside the bus for the meet and greet, and as usual was near the back of the line. Paul greeted from an open window near the back of the bus. I was a little tipsy but he was very friendly and in a great mood. In case anyone really cares, he was not drunk. Frank is a professional guitar player who had never seen Paul. He was very impressed, not just with Paul but the band overall. I have seen and worked with hundreds of bands over the years, and I honestly can't think of a show or a band that was better. I'm angry because I wanted to give Paul an old political campaign button that said "It's High Time!", but of course by the time I got to the bus, it had mysteriously disappeared from my pocket, along with about $100. I told him that I had gotten into Folker because my 5 year-old daughter insists on listening to it every morning on the way to school. Before I could say it, he said, "make sure you turn the sound down on the bad language". He was really great. Wish I could drive to Charleston, but I really should sober up.
But really, Kathy, it sucked.

And a "Sweeno Noer" signifies a Sweet Water 420 beer, not sure why I can't get that to post correctly. Perhaps that should be my alias, in the vein of Michael Vick / Ron Mexico.
Michael B , if you've got your ears on, your efforts last night are greatly appreciated. That was the best rock and roll drumming experience I have seen. Good luck to you in whatever you do, and much thanks for obviously bringing out the best in Paul and the rest of the band! You could have had your own queue of fans outside the bus.

Okay, you lucky listeners, you've been listening to the live broadcast from the Roxy here in Atlanta, on WPWR, on an All Paul Weekend, where, in fact, it's "All Paul, all the time," and Paul Westerberg and His Only Friends have just the left the stage for what looks like, the last time, as the stage roadie flashes his flashlight to the light tech, who flips on the house lights. Yep, that's it folks. Wow, what a show!! As my ears ring loudly, I will try and make my way through the crowd for some of their thoughts on the show, as soon as they stop trying to beckon the band back onstage with their hooping and clapping. While we wait for that, here's a possibly complete set list, in no particular order (except for the first two):
IOU Nevermind Stain Yer Blood If I Had a Hammer Making Me Go Merry Go Round Someone Take the Wheel Let the Bad Times Roll Eyes Like Sparks (with special guest to possibly be named later) As Far as I Know Mr. Rabbit Little Mascara High Time Born For Me Valentine Psychopharmacology Skyway What a Day for a Night Love Untold Different Drum Knockin on Mine Can't Hardly Wait Alex Chilton (A Bob Dylan song with some "hobo" lyrics) (Another song unknown to this DJ) I Will Dare Looking Up in Heaven How Can You Like Him? Left of the F#*&ing Dial!! DJ: "Sir, sir, can I bother you for a quick review of the show? Studious looking man with a well worn paperback under his arm: "Wow, Paul and the band rocked out!! That was the best show I've ever seen!! Paul seemed relaxed and enjoying himself. I think having a band really has revitalized him and loosened him up. It's great to see him having a good time out there, and I think that spilled over into the audience. Everybody was really into it!! DJ: "Did you have a favorite moment?" Man: "I'd have to say they really kicked it on "I Will Dare," "Someone Take the Wheel," hard to pick just one. I'd hate to be the drum heads on Michael Bland's kit, though. Man, that dude beat the crap out of those things!!" DJ: "Who was the special guest who turned up to play lead guitar on "Eyes Like Sparks?" Man: "I don''t really know. For a brief second I thought it was Slash, because of the hair, and because Velvet Revolver is playing across town tonight. But when I got a better look at him, he had some gray in his frizzy long hair, and a goatee, and then I thought it was local blues legend Tinsley Ellis. Then, Paul introduced him as "an old friend, most of you know him, some of you hate him...and then said something like Eric Christian. He wouldn't have looked out of place in Blue Oyster Cult. Put a sweet metalesque tinge to the song, though, and Paul seemed appreciative. DJ: "Best Paul quote of the night?" Man: "I have two. One was the first thing he said to the crowd, which was, "Why aren't y'all (yes, he said y'all) at the Black Crowes (who were also across town tonight, and a local band, to boot)? To which I screamed, "Because we want to hear some F*#@!ING ROCK AND ROLL, NOT SOME PSEUDO-STONES RETRO CRAP!! The second one was, "I bought this guitar at a Wal-Mart in South Carolina for $140.00, and it's only one I'm gonna keep," right before RIPPING into, I think, "Knocking on Mine," where he played a lead solo that chain-smoked a pack of Camels!!" DJ: Thanks for your time, sir. Atlanta, you were truly fortunate tonight to witness the best celebration of rock and rock this town has seen in quite some time!!! Until he graces us with his presence again, let's return to the recorded music. Here's "Treatment Bound." All together now, "We're getting nowhere....."

I've never witnessed anyone playing the drums with that much force before. That is my absolute favorite moment of every show I have seen, when Michael comes in hard on that second verse of AFAIK, it's just awesome. And yeah by the end of the song, it's incredible, so fierce. I loved that song so much when I first heard it but now the recorded version just cannot hold a candle to how it sounds live. I'm glad it sucked

Yup!
Michael B tore up the drums hard. Then during Can't Hardly Wait there was a hard stop, then a stare.. smile.. and nod between him and Paul. Paul gently lays down his guitar and he and the others start walking away. Just when you are thinking is that it?? Paul takes the drums, Michael takes the bass and bass takes guitar and CHW fires back up WOW!!

I recommend He's A Tramp.
And I'd pay $1000 to hear PW sing It's A Small World.

it was a great, great show -- one of the best of the 9 i've seen on this tour. opening with IOU/Nevermind into Stain Yer Blood -- just inspired! no one's mentioned paul and jim's white-stripes-ish get-ups: paul in red shirt/white pants and jim in the opposite. very cute. here are some pix courtesy of mr. daryl p. brothers: www.postcardfromhell.com/gallery/albums.phpmissy
