I waited 12 years to see Paul Westerberg and it was worth the wait. He opened with Alex Chilton and Left of the Dial and was in balls to the wall attack mode all night and kicked ass. He played harmonica, bass and a mean slide guitar on Dust My Broom. Highlights for me were a revved up version of Knockin' On Mine, Skyway (solo acoustic), Waitress in the Sky (!), I'll Be You and Can't Hardly Wait, of course. The only disappointments were one too many covers ( I can live without Different Drum), him starting and stopping a couple of times (I like eccentric but that's just dumb) and the fact that someone of his stature and importance in music for the last 24 years was relegated to playing a half empty Newport Music Hall, which is a dump. And for all of my brothers and sisters in central Ohio that saw the review in The Other Paper there is no way that guy saw the same show I did. For 2 hours Paul was the rock and roll reverend and I heard the gospel; sometimes it's great to be alive...
