Marz just called (while I'd stepped out for coffee, wouldn't you know) and left a message that the show was FANTASTIC! She didn't go into detail, but she'll be back home in Memphis in several hours, and I'm sure will file a full report when she gets home.

It was FANTASTIC! The band was on fire, the show rocked start to finish, the crowd was great, Gunshy rocked, Eyes Like Sparks came out of nowhere, an acoustic I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend followed with a threatening "That's the best song ever" remark from Paul, really just non stop highlights from start to finish!
And even better, it was great to meet a bunch of the people here, though I'm terrible with names - Henry and his wife from Nashville, the Inidianapolis contingent, Ted - I'd say a great time was had by all.
Really still addle brained from the show to post an honest setlist, so I apologize if this post is premature.
And Paul came off the bus after the show to meet and greet and was very polite, patient, and kind while doing so. Glad to have him and the band in Louisville, and I hope they never hesitate to come back.
Take care all! Steve In Louisville

Amazing. Better than COMO show last month--hard to believe. I seem to be hitting the shows between the trainwrecky shows. Or just missing them. Some nice surprises: Eyes Like Sparks (Jimmy on vocals), Gun Shy, an aborted Lost Highway, If Only You Were Lonely, Stain Yer Blood, the acoustic I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend. No real miscues, other than the aborted 'Lost Highway' with a couple of 'here we go' looks from the band. Overall, best show yet. (of course I've only seen two.)

Great show, BUT I missed the first 5 songs!!! Freaking Yahoo! directions. They said to turn 'left' on to Lexington Ave. off of Spring. Well, we were supposed to go right - so we ended up driving for 20 minutes and didn't come in until Eyes Like Sparks. I was livid. I down 2 shots of tequila as soon as I got there just to calm down. After that I was okay. However, I will NEVER follow Yahoo! directions again.
Anyway, it wasa great show. My friend Tasha liked it better than the Columbia show. That one rocked harder - this was a lot more laid back. Paul didn't speak much at all, but he was in fine form. To boot he played some pretty mean lead guitar.
Highlights for me (what I saw of it, anyway): -"Mr. Rabbit" - just great -"I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" - fantastic! One of my favorite songs and P did a great version of it -the 1 - 2 punch of "Alex Chilton" and "Left of the Dial" was great. -"Eyes Like Sparks" was kind of a glorious trainwreck.
Nothing crazy happening here - no smashing guitars or televisions. Maybe I'll see some of that atthe Nashville show.

What a great show!

I met a girl from Memphis last night. (Michelle) Was that Marz? Rock n Roll librarian right? How punk rock is that?
Nice teeny venue, lovely. Kickin' sound. Nice antics. Whatever. I'm not a reviewer. It will all gel up nicely in a week. By then, you will have heard it all and no longer care. Its all sleepy surreal mush in my head.
Nice to meet ya, Pline, A Reg, Sowbug. I'm sure theres someone I'm forgetting from the board.

I think this was the best show I've ever seen (could of been the beer but I remember everything like it was last night).
The whole experience was great - the pre-show meet up with other fans, the weather, the sounds , the meet-and-greet - wow!
Nice to meet the extremely nice couple from Akron area, Maybellene, AReg, Matsfan, Sowbug, CMI guys for putting the pre-show meet together.
The surprise favorite for me was "If I had a Hammer" - what a great sing-along. And also, he played my current favorite from Folker as the encore.
I have to say I consider myself lucky to see both sides of the tour (Memphis and Louisville). Kevin walked through the crowd after the show and I told him what a great show it was and how I enjoyed Memphis too. He scrunched his nose and said something to the effect of - "you like the Memphis show?". What a cool guy (along with the rest of the band).
I really wish for all of you seeing the rest of the tour to experience something like this.

How does IF ONly you were lonely work with full band? The band was very quiet as I remember it, maybe some light drumming. Oh yeah, I DO remember Kevin playing a country twang on his electric during that song, a very nice touch, turning it into the country song it was meant to be!

i would have LOVED to hear eyes like sparks. Wow...they had such a groove going on that one, it was unreal. It's been 24 hours and I'm still floored by Paul's performance. All the bootlegs I've heard (30 or so?)....and I've seen the man only 5 times, but I have NEVER heard him play better, sing better, or just seem so damn THERE! He put his guitar skills on display too. Just an unbelievable show. Exceeded any expectations. FREDDY

Band baLove Untold Different Drum Knockin' On Mine Can't Hardly Wait Alex Chilton I don't know if anyone else will agree with this...and yeah, I'm still a little floored over the show, but those songs right there, from Love Untold to Alex Chilton absolutely had the crowd in an uproar. He was loud, brash and not afraid to burn the guitar. I've never been to a show where so much energy exploded in a small time frame. From the last minute or so of "Knockin On Mine" to the ripping into "Can't Hardly Wait" you could feel the crowd just jump. Unless, I'm completely nuts, the recording of this show should be able to give people an idea of what was going on. Jeez.....I'm babbling......gonna go to bed. Freddy
