to anyone who takes the time to wait after a show to meet paul, would you please please please kindly ask him what inspired him to cover "different drum" and if he can recall ever covering it before milwaukee?
I will explain why in great detail once I hear what he has to say. I would like to have waited to ask him myself but couldn't. much appreciation to anyone who will do this for a fan of 22yrs.

Yes, written by Michael Nesmith, but Linda Ronstadt had the hit with her pre-stardom band, the Stone Ponies. Its an ok song, but far from a classic. Paul is making some odd choices for cover songs on this tour.

yeah i was gonna say too that dando's version has always been wonderful, and watching paul sing it in chicago it struck me funny that he was now covering songs already covered by dando.
i loved if i had a hammer though. i grew up with pete seeger singing that song all the time. i think paul's version rocked hard, and it was great to see him get ever so slightly political. same thing happened the next night in madison with michael penn of all people, who opened his set with down by the riverside.

Since this is urgent but you can't tell the story yet, would it be ok if we tried to guess your story? Maybe you could just nod yes or no if we get it right. - You were working as a temp for the Linda Ronstadt Fan Club in 1977 and personally processed Paul's induction fee. - Your phone number used to be one digit off Mike Nesmith's and someone who sounded like Paul called up one night to ask about a chord change, and you always regretted screaming "wrong number!" and hanging up on him. - Your sister was singing the song in the shower when a plane made an emergency landing about a half-mile away at the high school. Warm? -
