Didn't know where else to put this..I guess it has to do with "Appearance" Some journalist wrote that Paul was "short." Yet when I saw them in concert on this tour none of the band appeared to be short. Does anyone have an explanation to this..he must be at least 5'10" right? Just curious and confused about the journalists description unless the journalist was about 7'5" ! If I find the link I will post it..no time rightn now.

Anyway, he's at the height of his powers, and his legs are long enough to reach the ground, as some famous tall gay man once said.

Well, it's a funny thing for a "journalist" to comment on because basically, I don't give a rat's ass how tall or how much shorter Paul is in person or whatever. Who cares? I guess only a rock "journalist" would make note of something that inconsequential.

Yet when I saw them in concert on this tour none of the band appeared to be short. This is a classic case of an optical illusion. (Remember this one? >--------------< <--------------> ) You are in the middle of a club. 3 guys are up on a stage, and a 4th is sitting behind a drum kit. You have a lot of information about the height of the front 3 guys relative to one another, less info about the absolute height of any one of them. e.g. remember that guy Steve Sanders from the show Bev Hills 90210? If you knew you were going to meet him, how tall do you figure he'd be....6'3" or better right? because he towered over the whole cast. He's really 5'10" tops.

Everybody's less large than perceived based on press photo's, appearances on video/film, etc. There is no relativity when someone is presented in a photo or on television. I've been around many people who've appeared on television or in print and unless they were an athlete, their average physical stature usually surprised me. As one of our fellow MWT'ers put it earlier, Paul's at the height of his legs, or something like that. He's the largest man in the room when he's on stage. Rookie reporter, probably writes only for the web.

The guy who did the Harp article is *not* a rookie reporter, he did an excellent interview with Paul, one of the best ever and he flew out to Mpls and spent a couple of days doing it. FWIW, I've stood next to Paul and my guess is he's on the shy side of 5'7".

I think I've actually had quite a few people ask me about his height. Yes I have stood next to him and yes I was looking down a bit, but I am 5'10. No big deal, I know so many people who have stigmas with height. I could care less. But I do also have three friends that are 6'8, and a brother who's shorter then I so I tend to hear people comment on height quite often.

Is this the thread where I apologize for comments regarding his weight? 'cos he looked fit as a fiddle in Denver ('cept for the pulled hammy).

I don't feel the author injected opinions as fact, which is my number one pet peeve about rock writers/critics. FirstAveFiend, I agree with what you said: I'm not concerned about Paul's height either. It just isn't something that pops up on my radar.

'Scuse my sarcasm. I was trying to cleverly dismiss the notion that Paul's height was somehow worthwhile mentioning in an article about him, and it looks like other MWT'ers were more eloquent in doing so. His music should be the focus. I actually read the same article and it was very good. Call that my Bill o'Reilly moment of the week. Shutup! Next Caller!

He's more like 5'6" or 5'7". I stood next to him to get my picture taken on the CFMT tour. He was also bone skinny back then.

That's my height -- 5-6 -- and I think height could have a lot to do with Paul's music.
5-6 or 5-7 is considered pretty short when you're a guy in high school, and in that gladiatorial setting, the outlet for a short guy is to develop a quick wit and a smart mouth. I think the experience of being a short guy could have really contributed to his lyrical gift and the element of anger and frustration that comes through the music.
I have a son who was born with a birth defect -- a deformed arm -- that has brought him endless grief in school. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that my son is a hell of a musician and songwriter, and his anger and pain definitely come through in his ass-kicking music. Anything that makes you feel like an outsider can light a fire under your art.

how about Tommy? in some shots he looks just a little taller than Paul . by the way does any one else see a resemblance in Paul and Tommy? The way they bop around on stage, i always saw more of a resemblance than Bob and Tommy.

Yeah I would have to agree that I see more of a resemblance between Paul and Tommy then Bob and Tommy in their younger years. But the older they get the less they look alike to me. And the more Bob I see in Tommy. Tommy is taller then Paul but not a whole lot. I believe he's around my height, 5'10ish.
