well, 17hrs on a plane, well over half a grand spent and five days away from home, was it worth it? ohmigod it was worthy every penny! i can honestly say, my 5 days in Minneapolis and 3 nights of Paul at the Pentages was the best time of my life. Ive never met a friendlier bunch of people or been to a more welcoming city ever and doubt i ever will. Great to meet people from the board on Friday night at Lees and thanks to the guy who gave me the Scala show on cd whose name i cant remember now but whom i bumped into again at the CC bar. Thanks especially to Jason and his wife Flora for taking me in and showing me round Minneapolis, if you ever get the chance to visit Minneapolis then get in touch with MPLS for his Mats tour!
I cant imagine having had a better or surreal time, whether it be bumping into Ma Stinson whilst wearing a Tommy t-shirt, getting my pic taken outisde the Let It Be house, drinking in the CC & Uptown bars, going down to the basement where the Mats used to jam at the bottom of the old Oarfolkjukepus, hanging out with Lori from Babes In Toyland, seeing Dan from Soul Asylum in the Pentages lobby, and getting Pauls personal signature on my ticket (Paul + Paul = Paul!) and being told by Lori that his face lit up when told that a guy had travelled all the way from London for the 3 shows. As for the 3 shows? Well, other people have already and i am sure will continue to describe them better than i ever could. One word from me... magical!
Thanks again to the whole population of Minneapolis for their kindness, i shall spread the word and i shall be back someday. And thanks to Kathy for running this site and making it all possible. And to Paul, simply, man, thanks for the music, yr the greatest!
Was i satisfied? you betcha!
