Thought there would have been more posts about Paul in London... think about it, Paul Westerberg is playing in Britain! We've been waiting since '94 (first discovered) for this and haven't talked about much else since it was announced. Jealous as sin reading all the reviews on the Stereo-Mono tour. Now it's out turn.

We've been waiting since '94 (first discovered) for this and haven't talked about much else since it was announced. Jealous as sin reading all the reviews on the Stereo-Mono tour. Now it's out turn. R The reason there arent more posts is that we (UK Mats fans) are not that common, if it wasnt for lists/message boards such as this I would never have met any, I still have met very very few, hopefully that will change on Oct 19th! For years I thought I was the only one! I guess the experience of most of us is that we are the ones that introduce others to PW/Mats, but as the Mats split up long ago and PW is something of a recluse, however evangelical you get its not that likely that you're going to start some sort of matsfan forest fire. Hopefully this show will bring some people out of the woodwork, and maybe spark interest from a few curious Uncut readers. Another fairly major point - I GOT MY TICKETS IN THE MAIL TODAY! WOOHOO! If you could see me, you'd know I was doing the Dead Man Shake! Patrick ===== Think you're the only Replacements fan in the UK/Ireland? You're wrong! WOO HOO!!!!!!!
Been away in Belfast to see the New York Dolls [brilliant], oh and the White Stripes[so, so] and catch up with family and friends - so THANK YOU PATRICK for getting me my ticket.
I saw Paul way back in 93 [If memory serves] at the Borderline and that was an amazing show - in fact he may have played two nights ? I only got to the first night.
Anyway, this is the big one!!!! Roll on October

This whole thread makes me ill. I have this awful feeling that PW will have to fly directly over my house (air traffic passes over head) in order to get to the London show. Oh, the injustice of it all!

looking forward to the Scala show on the 19th...only a few weeks away now. Does anyone know of reasonably priced hotels nearby (i.e. cheap!!) ? I phoned the Scala and they said gigs are usually finished by 11pm; I'm flying back to Glasgow from Luton the next day and was planning to get a hotel at the airport but it might be a rush to get back to Luton after the gig. Also, does anyone know if the Scala are cool about cameras? c u all there, peter

I was in London at the weekend so swung by the Scala to check it out. Ive already put this on beerforbreakfast, so apologies if youve seen it already. The Scala is on Pentonville Road, at the junction with Grays Inn Road, just past Kings Cross station. Cant miss the big blue neon 'Scala' sign. Opposite the Scala is Caledonian Road, just down there about two hundred yards on the left is a pub called The Dun-A-Ri Bar, this was all I could find in the area, looked like a regular pub so I'm suggesting that as the pre show designated meeting spot. If anyone knows anything better in that area then speak up! I didn't get the tube, but this is on the Scala site - "Scala is a 3 minute walk from Kings Cross St Pancras Rail Station. Turn left out of the station and on to Pentonville Road. Scala is also adjacent to the Thameslink station on Pentonville Road. Turn left out of this station." Some words of warning - firstly I wouldn't recommend driving, park elsewhere and get the tube, the area is swamped with road works and its difficult to figure where to go, especially with nice, friendly, tolerant taxi drivers screaming at you if you show any kind of indecision, its very easy to get swept off in other directions. Secondly don't wander off the beaten track, really, this is not a pleasant neighbourhood. The main roads are fine, plenty of people about, but I drove off the main roads looking for somewhere to park, couldn't see anywhere, and was soon saying 'Why are all those semi naked women standing on that street corner?........Ohhhh, OK.' So I quickly drove back onto the main road to get more abuse from the taxi drivers! Just to emphasise this dodgy area aspect, again from the Scala site - "Safety - Please take care when leaving the venue especially if you are on your own. Scala security staff are happy to escort you to a taxi." That's probably overstating the case a little, but you get the point! Peter, the Scala site has some hotels listed, Cheers Patrick ===== Think you're the only Replacements fan in the UK/Ireland? You're wrong!
