verse...
in typical westerberg blues fashion....
and hes probably a 1/2 step down so...
but in standard tuning playing along....
C# Eb F#( on low E string) C# G#
pre chorus: hmm for some reason i cant figure it out...but it ends on E and just a couple chords..
Chorus: B F# E F#
Bridge: G# E
dont have my geetar in front of me..but its something like that.
i love this song!

HBJ, he's probably in open D or G tuning for this. But I'm playing it in just standard tuning. What I got was this for the verses: D Em7th She wore them cowboy boots Gadd7 D/A couldn't know she'd look so cute Then for the chorus: Am Gadd7 i'll go downtown and we'll find ourselves a judge C G F and I'm your hundred dollar groom G C I promise not to leave the room etc...for the bridge, it's Am to F, Am to D I may be wrong on the Em7th and the Am at the beginning of the chorus. I play it as an Am bar chord on the 5th fret. I dunno, what do you think? It seems to work for me.

HBJ,
yeah, I don't know my way around the freboard too well, what with 1/2 steps up or down in whatever key he's using. but yeah, it sounds good. Interesting that he's playing a half step down....i wonder if he de-tunes the guitar to accomodate his vocal range rather than play in a different key?
i agree, great tune, despite what some people think is a re-hash of 'once around the weekend'. doesn't matter to me, I dig this song!

works perfect if you are in what I refer to as "SRV tuning" (down a 1/2 step) Great job and thanks!
when figuring out alot of mats/pw/ryan adams songs, you can go for the "crazy tuning" version first since you never know what's going to give you the right sound. It would be very cool to see some sort of Mats/PW guitar book with AT LEAST the tunings used in the songs. But I suppose they were not really sure what they were playing in half the time.
I also read somewhere the PW just writes with whatever is lying around and tunes the rest of the instruments to that. So if whatever is lying around is out of tune, we are all on our own. But personally, I like to play my "version" of any song as long as it sounds good to me.
The way I see it, if they don't walk out while I am playing, then it must be ok. Or maybe just too cold outside.

Just a quick comment on the 'SRV' tuning (Eb). I believe this has been used by Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen as well. I think the purpose is for a little more slack to really dig into bending the strings.
I have been playing this song in standard tuning with the C# as well....working on the pre-chorus....results to follow soon

Pardon my ignorance, but what does "SRV" stand for? Is that something Stevie Ray Vaughn did?
Anyway, as for the pre-chorus, I have it as this (in standard tuning; my fretboard knowledge sucks, so I don't know the name of this chord (is it Dm?):
Dm Gadd7 go down town and find ourselves a judge
C G F and I'm a hundred dollar groom....

yep..Stevie Ray. He also used .13 or higher gauge strings. meaty. His tone was in his hands, not his guitar and amp setup.
ok...I'm playing C#m - F#add7 with the CD for the pre-chorus...its darn close.
