Does Mr Westerberg plan to visit the UK or Europe this year?

I second this emotion - I would follow the man to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, even The Hague.
And I lived in the Hague for awhile, and it *sucks.*But I'd go there.

Hey adecolley or DaveinDK or any of you folks across the pond: What sort of following do Paul and the Mats have over there? Are they relatively obscure or do a decent amount of people know them? Just curious.

No idea is the short answer. I stumbled across him through a track on a compilation CD. I like to think I have a wide knowledge of rock/post-punk but I'd never heard him until Stereo/Mono came out. I've turned a pal on to him who also raves about him.
To this day I still haven't heard the Replacements and I know of only one other pal who's a fan of that band.
That doesn't prove anything one way or the other as regards whether he's popular in Europe. Compared to other US cult artists like, say, The Cramps, I think he's fairly obscure.
Now, is he coming over here? Don't let my opinion put him off.

I think Paul is pretty much unknown over here. As an expatriate American, I brought my love of Paul and my some of my record collection with me from home. I've yet to meet a single Dane who knows the Mats or Paul. I've been working hard to turn people on to him, and i have made a couple of converts, but it ain't easy. Many of my friends here are from England, and even though they tend to be savvier about music , and American music for that matter, none of them had really heard of Paul until I started talking about him
Come to think of it though, There aren't that many Americans who know who he is outside of his somewhat cult following Certainly kids today don't know about the Mats legend. Yeah. I konow Pauls recently done the late night talk show circuit, but it's not like he's flashing his tits at halftime of the Super Bowl or anything.

no offence intended, but f..k europe, paul should come to australia. as grandpa boy, whose record not only got good air play on independent radio here but was also record of the week on the main independent (3rrr), which has a huge subscriber and listener base. hilarious thing though is, i heard one dj say i don't know who this grandpa boy is, but he's great. and he wasn't joking. besides, there's at least three aussies on this message board regularly, that i can figure and i know for sure he'd pull great audiences.

Of course Paul should do Oz too.
But first come to Europe. I've had a great idea. He could play a solo show in Brighton, where I live, where he would surely sell out. Seems to me most people do down here. He could kip in my front room to save costs.
Flights are only about 200 quid and he could almost backpack it around Europe. Bit of busking here, low-key shows there. Not being sarky, I think he would go down well. He's more of a critics' darling in the vein of, say, Scotland's Jackie Leven (who I recommend) than an out-and-out star here.
