Perfect, every note, every word, every last thing about it: Bent Out of Shape
UnPaul: "this one, CHILD, is killing you" - The Last Child?

I like Bent Out of Shape, but the I never liked the guitar sound. The first time I heard it I thought it sounded like Prince, then I later found out that it was recorded at Paisley Park. Coincidence?
I have to say I don't understand the second part of your question at all.

The Paisley Park sound might be why I like "Bent Out of Shape" so much. I like Prince, or did as of 15 or 20 years ago when I last paid attention.
Sorry I didn't make it very clear on that second part. The idea was to choose a song that is just absolutely perfect, you wouldn't change a thing, and then another song that has something in it that just seems oddly wrong, kind of un-Paul-like. In "The Last" I always kind of wrinkle my nose at that line addressed to "child." It just sounds weird but maybe someone can explain it to me.

I think Achin' To Be, Skyway, and Answering Machine are perfectly realized songs.
On the other hand the song Willpower is just creepy.

Un-paul like nominee---Hide N Seekin, or maybe its just one of those tunes I didn't latch onto.
Agree that skyway is one perfect song...and would add Nevermind.

Psychopharmacolgy- although the bouncy little guitar riff may be a little un-Paul the treatmeat of what most would consider "serious issues" (for Westerberg too)with irreverence and humor makes this a perfect Westerberg song
Runaway Wind- I always hear a "savior" in this song and think of some forlorn schoolboy looking at some drama queen beyond his capability- the cheeze is very un-Westerberg

c-note, you dare to knock the Runaway Wind?..
I am beginning to have serious doubts about the existence of your poetic, sensitive side altogether...

"Bookmark" is very un-Paul. I like it, I think I'm in the minority here, but doesn't seem anything like he's done. There's no jokes or dark humor or wordplay that he's known for. Very Tom Waits/Leonard Cohen.

Goodo,
The good news is by the time you get to Runaway Wind on 14 Songs the appetite to rock has already been satified by songs like First Glimmer of Light
Seriously though, you're right RW is poetic. It's the way he sings it that is very Un-Westerberg like.
I can see the point about how "Bookmark" would be considered Un-Westserberg like, but that song just kills me every I hear it (maybe cause I have daughters) and I consider it among his best ever- right up there with Here Comes a Regular.
Enter misadventure Neither tawdry or resplendent In clothes that hide your figure She was daddy's little sparrow He was a dirty picture window
-it just kills me to think...

I always though that much of Suicaine was un-Paul-like. I don't mean that in a bad way. It's whole sound was more polished that anything before or after. Still had the same clever/poetic lyrics. Bookmark and Actor being the most un-Paul sound.
I also think that Let the Bad Times Roll, while being very Paul is close to perfect too.
