At my wedding we played "Can't Hardly Wait" and "Portland." The words have nothing to do with romance, but it made us happy to hear the songs. Play whatever you want.

. I love Boring Enormous and it does sum up marriage rather well yet it's still very sweet. Cue sappy music: I'm having a framed 'gallery' of me and my wife made with a few of the lyrics stencilled in. I love the wonderful, realistic simplicity of marriage this song paints. (yikes! i sound like Delilah at night, don't i!

I was jazzed when I saw just the title "Boring Enormous" on the advance tracklist for Stereo. It's such a good title, I'd kinda like to hear some really rockin' original or alt version a la C&D

For Paul: Besides "Born For You"...I know it sounds weird, but Let's Not Belong is pretty romantic. I always heard it as saying "yeah, we don't make sense, but fuck it, let's do it." Also, can't go wrong with "I Will Dare."
Non-Paul: "The Light" by Common, "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds and "New York City" by They Might Be Giants.

I think the only optimistic love song he's done is Runaway Wind. I agree with Kathy that Born for Me is about a married guy talking to a single woman!
On the twisted side, I'd slip in Things..to foresee the trip to the lawyer a few years later; and EC's Alison, for the wedding cake line.

I think the only optimistic love song he's done is Runaway Wind. Appropriate if smitty76 is marrying a middle-aged woman who has lost her spark. Maybe not the most complimentary sentiment for the blushing bride at her wedding party.

I'm sorry, but I've met plenty of 20-30 year olds that have lost their spark, once they realize life isn't going to match the vision they had in mind when they were 16. It's not that much a stretch to be "unsatisfied" in your 20s.

Yes, that line refers to aging, but I don't think one has to be middle aged to start to change hair shades. I think the listener also doesn't have to take that line literally, but just a nod that as one goes alone, they tend to make way for maturity, and with that comes resignation (sometimes). I had a female friend, unmarried, and at age 27, certainly thought the sentiments applied to her situation, and loved the idea of a partner inspiring her to be more than she was, and that can define a love song to me.

I'm envisioning a lovely bride bopping down the isle as "Date to Church" rumbles from the alter!! As the congregation does the hand clapping and the Ba-Ba-bababa Ba part of course ;D
"Nobody" probably wouldn't go over well but "You said 'I Do, but honey you're just a kid, your eyes say 'I Did'" is still one of Paul best lines.

Congrats! I just had my wedding in November. My wife and I though Within your Reach & skyway were the best song choices. Also, I don't know if you're a fan, but Ben Fold's "The Luckiest" may be the best wedding song of all time. Good Luck! ;D
