Howdy Getting married soon and the debate about wedding songs is coming up. Anyone have any good Mats/ westerberg suggestions? Or any other "non-generic cheesy suggestions" are welcome too.

Solid choice, we used this one for the wedding party and "I'll Be You" during the actual dance.

The "i can't hide it, i'll never find it,.... with another girl" line seals the deal... hands down it's the one! i'M SUCH a sap!
end the night with "Red Red Wine" "set us up till we're dead!"

Don't Get Married. Sorry, couldn't resist.
For a non-Paul tune though, how about "Haunted" by the Pogues and/or maybe "Rainy Night In Soho."

If you're feeling adventurous, try these and see how she reacts. If she laughs, you've got a keeper. If she gives you that look then you might as well request Treatment Bound...

I think "Born For Me" might be the only straight-up love song that Paul ever wrote. It's the only one I can think of that doesn't have some bitter or melancholy twist.

I suspect you are right about Born For Me. I love Boring Enormous and it does sum up marriage rather well yet it's still very sweet. Whatever Makes You Happy is romantic too, even with the vomit.

I had the opportunity to play guitar and sing at a friend of mine's wedding a few years ago. The bride picked some typically sappy crap for me and my female duet partner to perform (Shania Twain - From This Moment, Savage Garden - Truly, Madly, Deeply, some sappy ballad from Con-Air, some other country-sap hit I can't remember).
Since it was an outdoor wedding without an organ or piano, she wanted me to play some 'appropriate' instrumental music over the PA as the guests were being seated.
When I ran out of psuedo-classical/Jazz chords to play, I started a medley of Mats/Paul instrumentals, including: Dyslexic Heart, Love Untold, Swinging Party, and Nobody. At the end, since the bride's name was Renee, I played the Left Banke hit, 'Just Walk Away Renee'
Nobody batted an eye at any of it. Well, except my old drinkin buddy Benny who asked me later why they picked 'Swinging Party'..... ;D

I suspect you are right about Born For Me. I love Boring Enormous and it does sum up marriage rather well yet it's still very sweet. Whatever Makes You Happy is romantic too, even with the vomit. "I can't bear to Try and share you Well, I'm the one to talk You're the one that's free When you forget me Then you'll let me Fade away..." I always took this as saying he isn't free to be with this person he's addressing - "I'm the one to talk - you're the one that's free". So he can't be with her and he knows she's going to have to move on and forget about him. In the pantheon of Paul lyrics, it's almost cheerful , but if you're not grading on a curve , it's still bittersweet. I still would recommend it cause the rest of the lyrics are just so beautiful. k.

Whatever Makes You Happy is romantic too, even with the vomit. i love whatever makes you happy, but the line "whatever makes you happy baby, i'm pretty sure it isn't me" you can't use that for a wedding. i, of course, vote for i will dare. because it's an all occassion song in my book.
