What was Tommy Boy? I was working off the list on Kathy's site. Is "Silver Naked Ladies" really it for PW album tracks also on soundtrack albums?

I can tell you hands the worse is the Nowhere Man cover. I listened to that entire I am Sam soundtrack and was saddened that my two of my favorite artists on that album had the two worst songs in PW and Nice Cave.

"Waiting For Somebody" is probably my favorite solo Paul tune, beyond great.

"Waiting For Somebody" edges out "Stain Yer Blood". Both definitely great tunes.

Waiting For Somebody, although I got a total soft spot for Let's Do It. Between this and Backlash, I wish Joan Jett and Paul did more music together.

You are forgetting "Tommy gets his tonsils out" from My Chauffer that starred that blonde girl from "Valley Girl".
That is my choice.

Waiting on Somebody. One of the mans best, & the best soundtrack song by far.

Dyslexic Heart is underrated. The na na na part is kind of annoying but the verse is great. I agree with the other person who said the Joan Jett stuff is great, especially Backlash. Sunshine and Nowhere Man are deplorable. What about Within Your Reach from Say Anything? I guess that's the Mats but Paul played all the instruments on that one anyways.

I missed BW's listing of Tommy... & Prine's listing of W/In Your Reach.
Both are gems, but Since W/In Your Reach is one of my favs, I'm now leaning in that direction.
Of coarse, both songs were previously released. So do they count as true soundtrack songs?

"Waiting For Somebody" is probably one of Westerberberg's cooler up-tempo kind of numbers. I remember the first time I heard that song I thought it was one of the coolests PW songs to date. But I have to say that the "Nowhere Man" cover on the I Am Sam Soundtrack is pretty damn good. It's just cool to hear a different take on that song. I mean the way PW did it was completely different from the Beatles version, and it's just pretty cool to get to hear a song like that. The Beatles were slightly before my time (my parents have always told me I was born 30 years too late) and so when I thought "Nowhere Man" I always thought of the upbeat Lennon-McCartney/Beatles arrangement - kind of like the way the Mats used to play it live, and so Paul's new take on it was just cool. I never thought of it as a slow song. That's PW for you though... always has a way of changing your perspective on stuff. Awesome. Definitley my two favorite Soundtrack songs.

once again now that i have voted the majority is correct , Waiting for Somebody is the best on that list, but I agree with the prine, if With in your reach was on the list it would be number one

"Within Your Reach" is the song that got me into the Replacements. It comes in right at the end of "Say Anything" perfectly. I had that soundtrack on cassette and that was my favorite song. I then heard Paul on the "Singles" soundtrack and I knew I'd found my favorite songwriter. "Waiting for Somebody" is still a favorite and I find it is one of the first songs that people recognize that don't know Westerberg. They'll be like, "Oh, I know this song." Same thing with "Dyslexic Heart". If I remember correctly "Dyslexic Heart" actually got some radio play.
