There's a B-side called "Horny Toad" ... well, I lost my copy, but as I recall it, it's a bit like Grandpaboy. Better played at 33 rpm if you have the 45.
Otherwise, help me out here. "When You Were Mine"? "Billy Jack Bitch?"
They are more or less the same age, drank the same Mississippi riverwater growing up, and like to play all the instruments, though one is a better drummer than the other.
Oh, and one gets a display case in Cleveland after tonight.

"When You Were Mine" definitely. What's "Billy Jack Bitch"? I'[ve been out of the Prince loop for quite a while.

if you take out the f/x, and throw some dirt on the mix, prince's "peach" could be a westerberg song. i mean paul would never do lyrics quite like it, but it SOUNDS similar in style...
oh, and the most obvious answer to the question is:
"never take the place of your man"
the googoodolls didn't cover it for nuthin'.

Hey I'm glad you agree on When You Were Mine. That saves me from really raking over the Prince archives for Paul-like stuff.
Billy Jack Bitch was a bitchy tune where Prince lashes out at the local MPLS gossip columnist "C.J." who dun him wrong somehow I guess. Kind of in the Silent Film Star vein (no heroin reference whatsoever) lyrically, prolly not musically. More song-title-only-similarities: Anotherloverholenyohead The Greatest Romance Ever Sold
Anyway, When You Were Mine is it.
Now for most Princelike Westerberg songs, I nominate: Knockin Em Back. Westy's got his vocal dynamics goin on that one.

"never take the place of your man" the googoodolls didn't cover it for nuthin'. They covered that song? So did the Afghan Whigs. And their version smoked.

They covered that song? So did the Afghan Whigs. And their version smoked. i'd like to hear the afghan whigs version. as much as i hate what the goo goo dolls evolved into, they used to be a kick ass rock band. and their version of never take the place of your man (with lance diamond on vox) is outstanding.

Speaking of the GG Dolls, they warrant a small blurb in this month's playboy mag. They have an insert discussing bad band names, and they make the list, along with a comment adding something like "and don't even get me started on the music".

My vote for PW's most Prince like song would be "Dyslexic Heart." It could sit right next to "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man" without any problems...
Listen to the "na na na's"' and then switch to the intro of "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man." Sounds like they could be parts from the same song.

That's where Paul and Prince overlap: when they can't think of any words.

The Mats covered "When You Were Mine"
I wonder what Paul song, would be the best for Prince to cover?

Too late now, but Prince could've got Miles Davis on "Trumpet Clip"

Yeah, I have an old Prince bootleg that has a lot of his Miles collaborations on it. Miles could have turned "Trumpet Clip" into a 10 minute avante garde jazz fusion piece.

Here's a few Mats songs Prince should cover on his upcoming tour (first in 6 years, sound familiar?):
Androgynous Skyway Kiss Me on the Bus Left of the Dial Little Mascara

The Mats covered "Never Take the Place of Your Man" before the Goos ever did.

The Mats covered "Never Take the Place of Your Man" before the Goos ever did. how else would GGD have heard of the song? They don't strike me as being big fans of Prince (or the artist formerly known as...). They covered it and probably thought it was a Mats song.

On the "All Shook Down" tour (in Cincy) which the Goos opened, we heckeled them so bad that about 6 years later when they plyed the KY State Fair, they talked about it to a local newspaper, HAH. Oh the old drunken college days:)

Hey 52, I was at that show too, but had no memory of the Goos opening..must not have made an impression. What I do recall is a roadie coming out to do the backing vocals for Little Problem, singing the parts done by Johnnie N from concrete blonde. It was one of those "what the hell" moments. IS my memory OK on that one?

A_R, here's how bad my memory is, I forgot she sang on that one??? I really don't recall seeing a roadie come out for that one.
Just to attempt getting your synapses firing on this one, the fat bass player of the goos actually stooped the song and had the lighting guy point it at us while he was screaming back and forth with us.
