I guess if you like the unreleased lyrics best, you're out of luck.

While CFMT is my favorite Paul album, the Dead Man Shake/Come Feel Me Tremble/Folker group just didn't beat out the Tim/Pleased To Meet Me combo.

This was a really tough decision. I can't express enough my love for the Stereo/Mono set but I'm going to have to agree with MTB and go with the Tim/PTMM.
The anxiety this has given me make me think it would be cool if separated Mats and Solo, and maybe then each album by itself.
Great poll though, one of my faves and even though I'm fairly new, I've gone through most of the 30+ pages of news and discussions and other topics as well.

As a solo artist: Stereo. With the Replacements: Let It be through Pleased To Meet Me.
I don't think you can judge his solo work by the same standards you'd judge his Replacements' albums. He's a different guy. Are you the same person you were at 23?
(don't answer that if you are 23)

we could do two polls. It breaks down real nice: the polls limit you to eight choices and there's 8 Mats albums and 8 PW solo releases, give or take an ep.
but i don't make that divide. I think his lyrics are him talking, from '79 on. In fact I'm pretty close to voting for sorry ma--and it's the latest stuff that makes me see how good he was even back then.

it was tough, but i really like the longing in the songs on hootenanny and let it be.

In my opinion, Paul cannot make a record without having at least one of the greatest songs ever written on it. That makes picking one period over another pretty tough. I figure I'll pick the Tim/Pleased To Meet Me period, if only because no song has been quite as lyrically affecting for me as "Here Comes A Regular".
