AS FAR AS I KNOW I'm in love with someone that doesn't exist Keep looking for them everywhere I go I'm in love with something that doesn't get kissed It doesn't exist As far as I know I'm in love with a face that I've never seen Once upon a place long time ago I'm in love with a time that never took place There isn't a trace As far as I know And I know everything that I need to sing I know everything I'm in love with the sound that I never hear As long as I watch your TV show I'm in love with that girl that doesn't resist That doesn't exist As far as I know As far as I know, the stars in the sky are gone As far as I know, they fell to your eyes only As far as I know I know everything I need to sing I know everything I raise a gun, that won't hurt me none I'm in love with a dream I had as a kid I wait up the street until you show That dream it came true, but you never do No you never did As far as I know As far as I know As far as I know As far as I know

I really like these lyrics. The great "exist/get kissed" rhyme grabs you right at the beginning. The puzzle is kind of resolved but not too much by the last part ("that dream, it came true").

I agree, the lyrics in this one are great. I mean:
"I'm in love with a dream I had as a kid I wait up the street until you show That dream it came true, but you never do No you never did As far as I know..."
Come on! The guy never ceases to amaze me. I find his simplicity alone to be his most effective tool from time to time...

This song makes me think of other songs where the simplicity works for him in mysterious ways: "Seein Her," "Skyway," "Things"

BINGO.
Those songs are all perfect examples of Paul's very effective, direct simplicity, but with mystery bubbling underneath the surface at all times.

I was reading the brief lyrics in the CD sleeve on "Folker" and next to "As Far As I Know" it says: "Compared to your eyes the stars in the skys are dull" This makes me think the real lyric might be: As far as I know, the stars in the skys are dull As far as I know, compared to your eyes only which I like a little better.

I probably should have learned my lesson by now, but does anyone else hear a little 'And Your Bird Can Sing' in this one?

I'm hearing blips and cheeps of Beatles all over the place on this album. I chalk it up (and down and up and down) to ascending/descending scales in the melodies, bass lines, guitar figures etc. The aural equivalent of googly eyes on a stuffed animal: you gotta love it.

I did a listen last night while I had the lyrics from here in front of me and that's what I came up with too. I'm still very partial to "The stars in your eyes are toes" though.

It's possible the "TV show" line is overly influencing my response, but every time I hear this song it's like I see the lead-in to a TV show in my brain. The ending chords and the producer credits especially. I bet it's the perfect length for a TV show theme song, or at least is easily diced and sliced to fit as needed.

I can't find your orginal post about giving yourself permission to enjoy the bad drumming. This is the one song where I think the 'Bam-Bam Rubble' style actually enchances the it.
