PAUL WESTERBERG Because Paul Westerberg was the lead singer and songwriter of the Replacements, the only good band to come out of the '80s, give or take a Spandau Ballet, it hurts to watch him stumble. But the fact that he hasn't made a great record in the past decade hardly softens the full body blow that comes with hearing "Folker," an album made up of half-sketched melodies ("What About Mine?"), tossed-off lyrics ("How Can You Like Him") and rotten production ("Looking Up In Heaven"). Yes, those were all the things that made his former band great. All that's lacking is a beating heart

i dunno about the bad production, because i don't know what that is, but i have to agree with the half-sketched melodies and some of the tossed-off lyrics. when it's good, folker's really good and when it's not good. . . .
well, you'll have to judge for yourself.

All that's lacking is a beating heart this sounds awfully "critical". you know what i mean, too, so don't ask. in the past decade he released stereo/mono, and those albums were pretty much universally praised. maybe the reviewer didn't get grabbed by folker. that's fine. but i would contend that in tone alone, this reviewer has an axe to grind. either with paul himself, or with his/her hipster credibility.

c'mon the reviewer clearly has hipster cred in spades, i mean not just anyone can toss off a witty Spandeau Ballet reference?
i bet the next joke has to do with Zamfir master of the pan flute, or something equally as obvious.
