(This reviewer, like everyone else, said Patti Smith was tops, but next mention for the whole weekend goes to our guy.) There were many other highlights, just paler in comparison. Paul Westerberg, longtime spokesman for lost souls with kind hearts, opened Saturday's show with a solo set that conjured thrills from his days with The Replacements (including a completely unprovoked guitar smashing) while proving he hasn't lost much speed or muscle. Without a band, it was easier to revel in Westerberg's lyrics, which are filled with clever wordplay but given enough gravity to escape drifting into triteness. Of course, that was only when he could remember the words. www.louisvillescene.com/2004/05/17/music_concert_wfpk.html
