There's the perfect PW songs, the PW songs you skip or would rather forget, and then there's the ones in the middle that are good but they could be great if he'd just take your one suggestion.

List a song and the one suggestion that would make it lots better.

For instance:

Meet Me Down the Alley - Less heartfelt singing

Pine Box - Needs 3 minutes and 57 seconds more to make it Paul's only 10 minute song.

Paul needs a "Whipping Post".


I would change "Love Untold" to take out that damn underwear line. Skeeves me out every time I hear the song as I contemplate the idea that wearing "clean" underwear is akin to dressing up in yer Sunday best, rather than something one just does because....one does.

I'm certain he meant "wear nice underwear" which is very understandable, but he said "clean" and it just bugs me.

i wouldn't change a thing about "love untold". i would have recommended that paul use the relative momentum of stero/mono, cfmt, mats rumors, etc., and record folker in a studio with his only friends.

having a real drummer on "As Far As I Know" would have made that song infinitely better.

edit: i meant to say "would have made the version of that song on Folker infinitely better."

it's definitely a kick-ass song, as evidenced by the HOF tour w/ Bland on drums, but the Folker version is pretty weak, IMO.

Make his cover of "Nowhere Man" a hard rockin' song instead of a sleepy cover version.

Add more lines to "Eyes Like Sparks" instead of repeating just a few.

And although it doesn't exactly fit this category, lose the title "Suicaine Gratification".

I love the underwear line, clever way to express what he's saying.

And most guys don't have "nice" underwear. They just have it, or maybe in his world "clean" IS the nice underwear compared to wearing yesterdays because no one has done the laundry... which is why most guys ever go commando.

I always thought that that was the amazing aspect of the song. He conveys so much with so little.

Hell, Gil Norton who did the Pixies records & the Foo's 2nd & most recent record... i always wonder what that recoed could have sounded like ...
