You can find a podcast interview with Jim Walsh at the spectacularly named "Wings For Wheels" blog. Finding out about this guy bring the total number of people who love both Bruce and the Mats to 4 (me, this guy, Marty and Jim Walsh).

Paul and Bruce are my two favourite songwriters and I'm glad to be part of such an elite group.
Presumably Paul would be in there too, assuming he rates his own former band.

Yeah, I was the weird high school kid who got really into Brucie when all the other kids were going nuts over Nirvana and Pearl Jam. I basically loved everything from Greeting From Asbury Park through The Ghost of Tom Joad and have really lost interest ever since he became so overtly political. I've actually never met anyone within my age range (I'm 32 now) who would qualify as a Bruce fanatic. As for the Mats, wow, I'm so disappointed that I missed out on them during the pinnacle of their success. I was far too young and living in a musically uncool area to have ever been into them. God bless Napster though....first it was downloading Alex Chilton, then Skyway, then I Can Hardly wait and by the late 90's I was a Mats fanatic. (I've since payed for all my Replacements and Paul albums hehe). I can also say that I've never met another Replacements fan within my age range.
I can't really make too many comparisons about my two favorite songwriters though. Bruce is more of a straight ahead storyteller who draws you in with his characters. Paul has always drawn me in with his lyrics, nonsensical at times, goofy, extremely clever and almost never cliche.

Thanks for linking to my site, Kathy.
I've found a lot of other people who are fans of both the Mats and Bruce. Usually, like me, they were a fan of one first and discovered the other at a later date. There weren't too many of us buying Let It Be and Born In The USA at the same time.

Come to think of it, I did too.
I had been getting into Bruce since 1978 but around 1983 started getting more adventurous and checking out some indie bands.
I heard I Will Dare on a radio show featuring new music. Bought LIB based on hearing that one tune.

I guess one more thing in common that I can think of is the way that I had to digest both band's albums several times before gaining a deep appreciation of them. With each Mats and Bruce purchase I would give them a spin and think at first, "Wow...I loved that last album I bought but I don't think I'm ever gonna get into this," only to be hopelessly addicted to that very album a few weeks later.

I know that I'm late to this particular party, but I love Paul, Bruce and The Hold Steady.
I kinda love their Springsteenesque cover of "Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window" on the I'm Not There soundtrack.
