I know it was for a movie or something, but why did Paul Westerberg and Joan Jett record a duet of "Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love)"? Who suggested it? How did it come about? Why did they Do It?
I also want to figure out if they were singing Cole Porter's original words or Noel Coward's raunchier later version.
Anyone know of any other rockin' versions of Cole Porter songs out there?

I think I have a pretty rocking version of Etta James doing "Love for Sale".....or maybe it's Nina Simone? Not sure....

It appeared on the movie "Tank Girl" soundtrack which could have been a send up of those Mel Gibson Mad Max movies from the '80s.. I guess somebody thought it worked in the context of the movie. CF

Speaking of Joan Jett, she's playing the Big E in Massachusetts tomorrow night for FREE.
My wife's trying to get a babysitter so we can go check her out. She rocks [and she's smokin' hot even though she's pushing 50 - I'm talking about Joan Jett here, not my wife. Not that I want to imply that my wife isn't hot. She is. But - aw, never mind].

wow. in searching for the joan jett/pw version on YT, i came across this horror: but here's the real song (there's also a version of the song on YT with a bunch of soft-core lesbian scenes from various TV shows/movies, if that's what you're into... figured this one is less likely to offend )

it's apparently a deleted scene. having never seen "Tank Girl" I have no idea if this is on par with the rest of the movie.

Well, I can safely say I'm not terribly interested in finding this movie, after seeing that.

i was working as an usher at a movie theater when 'tank girl' came out. i got to see it in full over the run (bits & pieces at a time). i remember being entertained by it, but i don't remember one detail about it to this day. i remember owning the soundtrack at one point, but i don't anymore.
basically, i remember it existing, but that's it.
the westerberg/jett collaboration, though, i have never, ever forgotten. so, for that reason alone, i [heart] 'tank girl'.

Uhhh... that would be John Doe from X.
Not sure how Joan jett, Paul Westerberg and the Replacements wind up on some peoples radar but not X? Maybe I'm just old... but I think 36 is pretty young for this board.

What I didn't get was why he was in video for a Joan Jett cover of a Replacements song. Just like I wouldn't understand if Paul Westerberg was in a video for a Joan Jett cover of an X song. Regardless, I saw Ms. Jett Friday night at the Big E in Springfield Mass [which is basically the state fair for the Bay State]. I took my 8-year-old son with me and, much to my chagrin, he seemed very unimpressed. We had to leave after 45 minutes because he was getting a bit tired, but she played Androgynous and said it's on her new album [she made no mention of PW or the replacements].

"Five" from early August.
I love the studio version of "Five", and I think "Sinner" is a pretty solid effort.

What of been real cool, is if Westerberg's kid, Johnny would have been in the JJ video with all the kids.
