Which is your favorite out the trio?
I'm struggling between either Tim or Pleased To Meet Me. I think if I had to choose, I think I'd go with Pleased To Meet Me. Why not Let It Be? Well...now don't kill me here, but for me Let It Be had too much filler on it for such a short album.

It is the Holy Trinity.......I pick Tim because Left of the Dial is on it.

Pleased to Meet Me, because:
It sounds the best. Chris Mars' best drumming performance. Nevermind, Valentine back to back. Teenage Steve Douglas. Even the filler is good. It's the only Mats album with Paul playing virtually all the guitar parts, and he rocks out on them.

Let it Be changed my life, and I certainly don't feel there is one note of filler. It's perfect. Followed closely by Tim and Pleased, in that order. For me that Mats are a band that didn't need the best production to sound great, for me the rawness of the Twintone Records is part of the appeal. Pleased, which I love, sounded a little too sterile for me, Chris' drumming seemed a little stiff, and I missed Bob's nutty guitar playing

Sorry Ma - Let It Be definitely had their best sound. The production on Tim feels like everything is tiny and trebly. And on Pleased, it feels like Paul is standing right next to you singing while the rest of the band is a mile away.

Let It Be is sonically the best of the three, Tim features Paul's best overall songwriting with the 'Mats, but there's just something about PTMM that I somehow like a little more than the others, and I can't even really pinpoint exactly what it is. It's just a wonderful rock n' roll record overall. Feels great, the songs are great. It's my idea of a perfect rock n' roll record.

On the best of, you can hear how dramatically the sound is improved on the Tim and PTMM songs, which leads one to believe that remastered re-issues of these albums would be great to hear.

Tim for obvious reasons. Nah that's just some BS. I like Tim because it careens from tight to trainwreck sometimes within the same song and to me thats the definitive Mats sound.

Yeah, I have the best of (It's what got me interested in The Mat's to begin with) and I'd love to hear fully re-mastered versions of both Tim and Pleased To Meet Me.

Most of the complaints about the sound/production on Replacements records are really complaints about the appalling CD mastering. The records sound completely different on vinyl. Although 'Tim' is still the worst mix in rock and roll history!
I agree, the guitar on that album rocks the bad 'un, but I think many of the ultra-distorted rhythm parts on 'Tim' and 'PTMM' are Tommy. I could be crazy though.

PTMM because: IOU Alex Chilton I Don't Know Nevermind Valentine Skyway Can't Hardly Wait This. If only the trio could be smushed into one album. Hmmm.... Please To Let Tim Be? Tracklisting: Alex Chilton I Will Dare Valentine Left of the Dial I.O.U. Bastards of Young Can't Hardly Wait Answering Machine Androgynous Skyway The Ledge Here Comes a Regular

I figured I'd pass it on to a non-convert when the opportunity presents itself.

Let It Be is the album that started it for me. It has two of my favorites (Unsatisfied, Answering Machine) and the rest of the album just flows perfectly. I love T and PTMM as well but they run slilver and bronze behind LIB. Ain't no wrong answers on this one.

i don't really know how i would choose between any one of the holy trinity. for what it is worth, i think i listen to tim & ptmm a little more often than i do lib, but that might just be a function of what is on my ipod.
don't make me choose! just don't!

I always liked Let It Be, but, as blasphemous as this might sound to you guys, I never quite loved it. I used to really, really like Pleased to Meet Me, but I honestly haven't listened to it in a while, though there are a few tracks that I really do enjoy.
Tim is an all-time favorite album for me, though; I definitely do love that one. The highs are just so high that no lows can take away from them, and it's impossible for me to think a bad thing about it after hearing the last three songs.

It's what started it for me and I simply played the crap out of it on my turntable while looking at the cover and wondering which dude played what. ;D
