My favorite too. That performance was very spirited and brimming with raw rock 'n' roll energy. Very hard to top. Probably the best performance I've ever seen on SNL. That and "Bastards of Young."

that one really IS good. i love watching the drummer (is that freese?). sometimes he plays really strangely; like he is trying to beat some demons out of his kit in a voodoo ritual.
the other guitarist's hair is funny, too (that isn't tommy keene, right?).

Yep, Josh Freese on drums. That's Dave Minehan on guitar and Darren Hill on bass.

Oh, has to be that British guy when they played As Far as I Know!
I liked the SNL version of Can't Hardly Wait, with the full band.... much fun there.
But agreed, when I try to convince someone of PWs chops, I'll email the link to Knockin'.

Yep, Josh Freese on drums. That's Dave Minehan on guitar and Darren Hill on bass. I've also wondered who was playing with Paul on those SNL dates. I always assumed the other guitarist must be named "Hal" since he blacked out the other letters on his Marshal amp. (Seems I read about someone named "Marsha" doing a similar thing.) Great work there Mr. Hill! I'm torn between "Knockin' on Mine" and "Can't Hardly Wait". "Knockin'" is a gas. And ya just gotta love Paul cracking up on "Can't Wait" when someone breaks that little silence with "BURT REYNOLDS!". The timing, the horns, everything perfect. OK- I vote for both together.

This is a pretty great clip. I saw PW in ATL on this tour and he blew me away.

I agree with Knockin' on Mine, whose greatness was guaranteed with two Boston guys in the band [Minehan and Hill]. And Freese is a nut - very entertaining to watch.
Of course, that was the same night that Freese barked out "Burt Reynolds" during the break in "Can't Hardly Wait," cracking up the band.
I seem to remember a year or two later PW slagging that band to some degree when he brought in Tommy Keene and Michael Bland for the Eventually tour. Never could figure that out. That band was tighter than a duck's ass.

Minehan was in the Neighborhoods - the 'Hoods as they were known around Boston. Fantastic band that never got much notice outside of Boston.

I never noticed until now that Paul, Chris and Tommy all rotated clothes between songs on SNL...... hilarious

always loved this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVS0AwJv530(can't figure out yt embedding - sorry) love the "joey & dee dee" tribute, and i have always been mightily impressed by the sheer balls of playing solo, completely by yourself, on national tv.

For embedding: 1. Click the "YouTube" button from the formatting menu (under the 'colors' drop down box. 2. This pastes the tags "yt" in opening and closing brackets into your post. 3. From the URL of the video you want to post, take the video ID number which is the "v=" parameter from the URL (in bold below): www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVS0AwJv5304. Paste that video ID in between the "yt" tags and you're set. It won't show up in preview but will show up when you post it. Voila:

I've always been partial to the performance of "Glimmer of Light" on MTV from 93, think it's superior to the studio version. Too bad it was yanked off YouTube.
