i finally caught up with the science of sleep this weekend, and in this movie gael garcia bernal is such a ringer for the young westerberg it's scary.
someone needs to get a mats bio pic off the ground in a hurry and cast this guy.

In all honesty, with the exception of his hair, I see very little resemblance to Paul.

that picture is not from science of sleep. rent it and you'll see what i mean. and it's not just the physical resemblance, it's the mannerisms and attitude.

I definitely see a resemblance in that picture. Is this the guy from The Motorcycle Diaries? I just watched that and really enjoyed it.

I just googled the name and that was the only photo of him I found with the requisite "Westerberg" hair. I know what you mean, though.I've thought the same thing about Billy Crudup in Jesus' Son. He really looks nothing like Paul, but he seems to be channeling him in the movie: dark and brooding, but kind of awkward and ungainly at the same time. |

yes! he is. That's a great movie. And it doesn't hurt that I kind of have a crush on Bernal. High five! Me too! He's my favorite actor and just keeps getting better. He could not be more adorable/charming in Science of Sleep. I wanted to put him in my pocket. |

Okay, I just rented the movie (which was very sweet, by the way). Other than the dark, messy hair, and that his lips are kind of bunched up under his nose, Gael Garcia Bernal didn't look that Paul-like to me. Charlotte Gainsbourg, on the other hand, could pass as a young Patti Smith.
