So I got my little device that lets you rip stuff from tapes and vinyl to the computer -- and it actually works! Very cool. I have a boxful of cassettes and video tapes from the dark ages of trading and most everything I have on cassette are shows or demos that are already long since available on CD but I took a look thru to see if there was anything I didn't have on CD and found these 2 songs. I don't remember where I got them from. One is a Muzak version of BOY and the other is an acoustic version of "Dyslexic Heart", both from "Singles". I don't have them on CD, not sure if other folks do. So I'm posting them -- quality is what it is, lord knows how many generations removed my tape is, then factor in the tape sitting in my basement for however long, getting ripped via this doohickey to a WAV file and them converted to MP3. "Bastards of Young" (Elevator version)"Dyslexic Heart" (Acoustic version)Enjoy

The solo acoustic Dyslexic Heart sounds great. I was just feeling down on the Singles version the other day because of how produced it was (I'll probably swing back to living it in another month). It is probably too cute for Paul, but it's a fine song.

Thanks Kathy! However, that muzak BOY was slightly disturbing. ;-)

Thanks Kathy! However, that muzak BOY was slightly disturbing. ;-) Did Kathy post that here or did you hear it somewhere else? I'd really like to hear it. Thanks for the two so far Kathy. I think I'll check out that device, though I have nothing of value besides some old LPs I'd rather not repurchase.

I had posted this a while back, but here's Cameron Crowe on KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic" discussing PW doing the music for "Singles", and playing the acoustic "Dyslexic Heart" for the listeners : Crowe interview

Have you had any problems with yours so far? Other than spilling soda on my Gear Daddies cassette of "Can't Have Nothing' Nice" right before I was about to convert it, no problems so far I haven't used the Nero software to automatically chop up the finished file into songs, I'm doing that in another editing program, so I'm not sure how well that works. But it's was pretty simple to get started with, I'm still working on my tapes so I haven't tried doing any vinyl yet.

Man, always 3 years too late haha. An acoustic version of 'Dyslexic Heart' sounds pretty damn good to me. I have a turntable devise that lets you record cassette and vinyl to CD, and works out great for converting demo tapes to CD!

I once heard an elevator version of "Can't Hardly Wait." Where the heck do these come from?

if you have the music, you can make a midi file and crank it through some cheezy synths that we all have pre-installed on our computers. makes for some funny change of pace. I prefer the lounge-y version of "dont fear the reaper"...
