I don't know how widely Austin City Limits is broadcasted (it may be just for us special people otherwise known as Texans) so most of you may have never heard of it. It's a great little concert show that features Texas homegrown artists or really cool not so Texan artists. It's on PBS every Saturday night. Why has Paul never played on Austin City Limits??

definitely not just a texas thing anymore. it is broadcast most anywhere. although, truth be told, i have a hard time pinning down when it is broadcast here in mpls (if at all anymore). i know it used to be.
anyway, some of my favorite musicians/bands have played it.

ACL is on Saturday nights, I think at 10 or 11, in the Twin Cities, possibly rerun Sunday nights as well. Good show, definitely seems like Paul's kind of thing and now that you mention it I'm surprised he hasn't played on it either (at least that I know of).

Its on midnights in Detroit or Buffalo (whichever it is I get) on Fridays, so I don't see it too often.
But, uh, Ryan Adams is going to be on soon apparently.
Really, though, Paul should be on. I've seen the Pixies, Guided by Voices, Wilco, etc. Good show.

ACL has been a PBS staple in most tv markets, for most of the 30 years they've been doing the show. Even though there is no PW, again ...it looks like they have some pretty cool shows coming up. ACL - Schedule

Cool - glad to know that lot's of folks get to enjoy this show. I wasn't sure if it was just a Texas thing. I don't get out much and really don't get out of Texas much. Back in the 80's I had no idea that ZZ Top was "Nationwide". What can I say - I'm a goob

Anybody know if any of the previous shows are avaiable on DVD or VCR? There sure has been some great music on ACL! Some Austin City Limits shows were released on DVD early this summer. The only ones I can remember off the top of my head are Lucinda Williams and Richard Thompson, but I think there are more available. The show is only an hour long, so it's usually a truncated version of the concert. The two DVDs I mention are the full concerts, featuring 20-40 extra minutes of music not shown in the original broadcasts.

Also Son Volt, the Flatlanders, Susan Tedeschi, Robert Earl Keen, Dwight Yoakam, the Texas Tornados, Steve Earle, John Hiatt, and Eric Johnson.

In the SRVaughn Box that came out a couple years ago, they include a DVD. I think it was recorded at ACL, though I'm not 100% on that.

Yeah ACL is a great show. I've been to the ACL Fest now for 3 years and I think that would be a great place for him to play as well. It's a 3 day fest with over a 100 bands at Zilker Park.

I have the DVD of the Son Volt appearance recorded in 1996. The sound quality is amazing! Also, SV played way more songs than what was shown in the 30 minute broadcast. I'm not sure if every artist has that luxury. ACL has opened their doors to many different musical genres in the last few years (Ben Kweller, Spoon, Flaming Lips, Bright Eyes) and it hasn't been exclusively country or even American (David Gray). I agree the PW should be on ACL. Maybe Lorne Michaels has a say in the selection process!
