Anybody know much background info (who played on it, when/where/why recorded, etc) on the songs on disc 2 of AFN/NFA? Especially: Who Knows, We Know the Night, Portland, Rolling Pin, 'Track 18'.

portland is tha mats ealry version of talent show recorded in nyc i beleive, scrapped sessions cause they hated the label picked producer, who knows is a demo, they all play on it, and like a rolling pin is the mats , and the "bob, com'on in and play guitar" is paul asking bob dylan to come back and play guitar on it, he was recording next door, and took a beer from their stash but then tommy told him to fuck off before he knew who he was....there's seveeral takes on what happen, not sure which is true..like a rolling pin was also on "dont buy or sell, it's crap" promo stuff for all shook down, had demoes from the sessions

I thought we know the night was an all shook down outtake, but I'm not certain.

Track 18 is a demo/alt version of "I Don't Know." The best part is Paul singing to the engineer "We'd like to hear some guitar, so you can turn it up any time now."

I love this song !(the demo) I always include it on a comp cd when I'm turning someone on to the Mats because it shows how fun they could be. Anybody know why Tommy (I think) yells "Richard!" at the very end?

Anybody know why Tommy (I think) yells "Richard!" at the very end? Maybe he thought the song would make them "richer!"

I think that's a really drunk Paul saying "Richard." Damn, that song is one of my faves too. I also like when Paul sings something like "Do you wanna be my wife?" and Tommy says, "Eww!"

Anybody know why Tommy (I think) yells "Richard!" at the very end? I always took that as the alternate to Dick. Someone (I presume it's Tommy as well) calling someone else a dick (Paul, the producer, his dog?)

I always took that as the alternate to Dick. Someone (I presume it's Tommy as well) calling someone else a dick (Paul, the producer, his dog?) This will sound bizarre I'm sure but I'm always reminded of the TV show Happy Days when I hear him say Richard. On the show the mom would yell for Ritchie the same exact way. I think Tommy is doing "Mrs. C".
