Could've been the name of the second bonus tracks CD to Besterberg.

I imagine if 'All That I Had' was such a lame attempt to get a hit that Paul would've decided to 'attempt' a little harder and actually put it on an album at some point from 1996 onward...

Okay, I've only listened to it once so don't hate me yet.
It's okay, and I can kind of see why it was left off Eventually. It's very pretty lyrically, definitely a 'yearner', but sort of..blah.

I really love it. I listened to it on the way to work this morning and I was stopped in time and space for a minute, if that makes any sense.
Kind of like that millisecond before you start crying.

hmmm. not sure about this one. it may have to grow on me and really grab ahold if i'm in a certain mood. i sense this wistfulness in the lyrics and i really sense this looking back on what could have been.
i want to like it, but i'm not sure where it's breaking down for me. i'll give it some more time, but it's interesting in what Paul had to say about it too.

i find this song to be one of the rare positive westerberg songs. just love it. I agree with Scooter on this one. You kind of wonder where thats coming from but a nice alternative. The song grabbed me right away when I was listening to it through artist direct. I imagine listening to the song on my headphones on a cloudy day, maybe raining a bit but, its ok, you know? (ok I'm not good at describing that feeling).

I agree with Scoots and FAF on this one. Simply a beautiful song. Great little strumming action, wistful and sweet. Amazing what he thinks is not worthy for an album.

musically: "Jack and Diane" meets "Learn How to Fail" lyrically: straight outta therapy i'm with Paul and kgp on this one.

thematically, probably a precursor to "let the bad times roll"....except somehow, a little sadder. i think it's the "fine" (in the lyrics), as opposed to "good".

Would've been the best song on Eventually.

After more listens, I dig the chorus but it's the rhythm for the verses which reminds me of "Jack and Diane", a song that I never really liked. Nothing against John Cougar Mellenkamp---"J&D" isn't something that moved me. I do think that it's an okay song, but I also suspect it's a song, like Faf had said, that's suited for a rainy/cloudy day when you're in one of those quiet, wistful moods.

It took a couple of listens but I really like it now and play it frequently. Definately suited for the rainy/cloudy/reflective days too. To get you off of "J&D", think of it musically as a slower "33rd of July". Okay, now I'm going to thinks "J&D" - thanks!
