ok, i listened to as far as i know (again), and lyrically i think it is deeper than it might appear at first listen. i think it might be about an idealized relationship....as opposed to the actual reality of the relationship/person. like, being in love with the fantasy, made up, in your mind version of someone, as opposed to who they really, truly are. has someone already said this previously? if so, my apologies. I'm with you.

I might be in agreement with A Reg that its AFAIK live and Gunshy on the album. Gunshy does rock and was one of the first songs I became attached to on the album. But AFAIK is the total package as well and the fact that its so good live just can't be understated.

I'll be a boy today and go with 'Gun Shy.' (Isn't it the more 'boy' of the two?) I think it's more of an age thing than gender thing, and you're too young to be chasing anything close to middle age!

Which song is more likely to be considered a classic in ten years time? Probably "As Far as I Know."
Having said that, my favorite is whichever one is playing at any given moment.

"As Far As I Know" would sound great done by a high school marching band. Anyone have access to one?
Does the "raise a gun/that won't hurt me none" enhance/detract/do nothing for the song?

I should clarify; for some reason I think of Gunshy as being the intro to Folk Star. Spends three minutes telling you what he is which is all over the map...until he pins it down on the next song with a scream telling you he's a folkstar (that rocks) now. I partially assumed they would be played together on tour, wrong 'em boyo. Maybe the millisecond gap between songs on the album feeds that thought, not sure.

It always took me a second or two to figure out which song he was playing when I heard this live. I kinda think of them as one song too I guess.

ok, what i was trying to say about gun shy earlier goes a little like this.... the way that sixteen blue captured being a teenager, i think gunshy captures the feeling of rounding the corner into almost middle age. it's kinda like "a wonderful lie", only fast forward about five years - when the feeling of nostalgia about your younger years have faded. suddenly, you're not just getting older, you are older. and too, when he rattles off those different things (rock star, farm hand...etc) it's almost like when you've reached a certain age and you have these different hats you've worn over the course of the years, and they all come together to make up who you are...
sorry, i just went on forever.
i've always heard "morning", not "money"....and i always thought of morning as being the metaphor for youth in the context of the song.
ttbo is going to be by shortly to make this all sound better and drop it like it's hot.

No, your exactly right. And though it really doesn't sound it, I think it means more. (Done under the guise of a balls-out rocker, of course.)

I believe it was cellarfullofnoise (apologies if that's the wrong cite) who observed that "GunShy" might be Paul's "I Am the Walrus." Nothing and everything at the same time. That's genius!
