yeah, heard the news. Josh is going to get a good pay day, so good for him. Foo Fighters like to tour a lot, don't they? He'll be earning his paycheck then! But Josh has always seemed to be a very capable session or touring drummer, he'll do fine.
I've always wondered if he would want to be a full fledged member of a band, not just "for hire" kind of guy for a tour or an album or two. And yeah, as much as he loves the Replacements, they ain't doing anything but re-issues, so Josh may as well keep busy and not wait for the call that probably isn't coming.
I really wish Paul could've made it work with Tommy in producing some new album following the re-union shows. The re-mixed/newly mastered re-issues are fine, but I can't help but feel it's a bit of an oldies act (or worse, a bit of a money grab, if I'm being cynical). I mean, we're going back to songs done 35-40 years ago, great as they are.

I'm sure he was never opposed to joining a band; in some ways, he actually was a Replacement, but it just petered out instead of going places. I remember reading a quote from him, stating that Westerberg was his favorite out of all of the guys he played for because the Mats were his favorite band in his formative years. Hanging out with the Mats was a labor of love for the guy, but he's got a wife, kids, and they all have to eat. Freese is easily one of the best drummers in rock, and Grohl could have chosen anybody on that list. I'm glad Josh got the gig, he deserves it.

Those in the DC area will know of the legendary 9:30 Club and its origins. Hometown boy Dave Grohl helped out with the opening ceremonies of the Atlantis, a replica of the original 9:30 Club in DC. Foo Fighters were the inaugural band to open up the venue. I remember my first time being there as a suburban high school kid venturing into sketchy and menacing part of DC to see some hardcore bands---Agent Orange, the Brains (I think? def not Bad Brains,) Black Market Baby. Never did see Fugazi for some reason. My older cousin was in the lottery to get tickets for the opening but was shut out, the demand for tickets was overwhelming. And Josh Freese gets a mention in the Washington Post's article: www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2023/05/31/foo-fighters-atlantis/
