Recently watched the documentary "Don't You Wish That We Were Dead" on these guys and have been gorging on their discography/TV appearances since...I sense a real Mats vibe from them, attitude-wise *and* musically. Anybody know if Paul is a fan? At the very least, he must've liked the vampire makeup enough to borrow for the "Mono" cover... www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBQCXe4vb0Y

I know Bob was a big Capt. Sensible fan. You can find various photos of Bob online wearing Damned t-shirts. I think the Mats opened for the Damned was in the early 80s...

The Supersuckers,on the other hand, had a different take on Captain Sensible:
Got a call from a clown down in London town Said he's got a great idea When he started to spew what he wanted to do It filled me full of loathing and fear Yeah it filled me full of loathing and fear
He said I got a 'zine, and I think it'd be keen To match you up with one of our blokes Said he'd gave it a try, but it didn't fly Now he's the butt of all of our jokes Yeah he's the butt of all of our jokes
And I said Captain See you later Say Captain Goodbye
Well we started laying down some tracks And behind our American backs He was playing with some evil toys I said you may not want my advice But that piano over there might sound nice He just insisted on that synthesized voice And that just didn't sit right with the boys
Well that put and end to it And he politely packed his shit He said, "Country sucks" and he shoved on out the door I know you're so-and-so from some band And you mighta been good But I'll be damned if I'm going to take that anymore No I'm not going to sit here and drink that anymore

Ha, all in the finest punk tradition. "Idiot Box" was a pretty good diss track by the Damned:
I can turn you off Well I just tried & left you off Tumbling you may be art But you sure ain't rock'n'roll
People standing in the rain Just to see that screen Verlaine Supersonic I'll come back soon 'Cause all we got is a marquee moon
Billy Ficca don't waste my time Just turning on to What's My Line Richard Lloyd you're here this night You should have rode the golden stars
Old friend Smith works for the box Oh what a haggard face Hope he gets a lot of shocks From his Fender bass
