I just figured I would pass this on. Jim Rome, who is a huge Mats fan, told his listeners today on his show that he saw Paul's show in LA the other night and went on to give Paul quite a bit of love.
Now, I already know that the majority of people in here seem to dislike Rome or have no opinion on him. He is an acquired taste as I have mentioned before when Rome was going to interview him. I just thought what he said was interesting.
He mentioned going to the show courtesy of Vagrant with John Androsic from 5 for Fighting. Rome told his listeners, the majority of whom probably never herd of Paul or the Mats, that the show was incredible. Rome said at times Paul was incredible and then the next moment looked like he would crash and burn yet he always managed to pull it together. That was what made it great and why Rome said the Mats are his all time favorite band. So like Rome or dislike him, he is a huge fan, once again saying that Tim was the greatest album ever, just like he did when he interviewed Paul.
Anyway..................

Hey duckfoot,
thanks for that tidbit. Leaving his sports persona alone, I think the best part about Jim Rome is his willingness to promote and tout Paul Westerberg. Especially to an audience that doesn't know who Paul is. I hope he continues to speak about Paul so much that maybe it'll intrigue someone enough to check out Paul and the Mats material.
On a much lesser scale, Rome is sort of doing what Dave Letterman did with Warren Zevon: always spoke highly of him, had him on as a musical guest, had him fill in for Paul Schaefer, etc....

He definitely is an acquired taste, but he is a rocker. Rome is a guy who was using Lust for Life as a theme song way before it was a cruise line commercial! He also uses a Boomtown Rats track as a bumper - a holdover from the old days when his show was on late at night. For whatever reason, the Five for Fighting guy is friends with several LA radio sports hosts. Maybe it has something to do with the sports themed name of the band

just the fact that rome hangs with that five for fighting douchebag is yet another reason to kick his ass.
though, I do love his love for paul. maybe, like zevon filling in for shaffer, westerberg could fill in for rome. I would DEFINITELY listen to that.

I remember when he used to do personal appearances in the la/oc area and was a regular guy you could hang with. Now hes out tipping drinks with Mike Piazza. Those were the days though! Didnt he also used to play some of the Mats as bumper music?

Yeah, Rome used "My Little Problem" as Areg pointed out. I do not think he has not used it in a while.
The guy from 5 for Fighting is a big sports nut. So while I am no big fan of his music, I can appreciate him being a sports fan and knowledgeable at that. Rome once had Matt Damon on and Damon only wanted to talk about the Red Sox and not his new movie. Rome goes all over the board for interviews some times.

I remember when he used to do personal appearances in the la/oc area and was a regular guy you could hang with. I do not have any recollection of him ever being a regular guy at all. My memories of him start and end with his being a poser idiot who thought his show on the mighty 690 would let him skip the line and get into the club I bounced at in P.B. In the mid-'80's.
