Some notes off the top of my head about night 2: Yep, we got Merry Go Round, Customer, Nevermind, Within Your Reach, A couple stabs at the Beatles (Larry Williams) Bad Boy, Opening riff to Substitute, A medley of throw offs from Dave, in fact Dave sang a lot of brief lead parts to fill in when Paul would stop singing. Paul was upset with the lighting and during the break of Hangin Downtown, the second song, threatened to fire Ben, who I assume was in charge of lighting. Later in the show Paul hurled several water bottles at the lighting rig, but didn't connect. It seemed like Paul may have been having some back pain due to the fact that he kept grabbing his back, and needed a stool or tent to get off his feet. The tent was not out during night 1 and it was funny to see the roadies having to pitch it behind the stage after it was summoned on night 2. At one point Paul yelled "Little Village Mother F'r" like at the last show in Grant Park. The last song was IOU and it rocked like hellfire!

Oh yeah, and they had no intro music on Night 2. They just came walking out with the house lights still up.

Great summary, exit0. At the beginning, Tommy came out and said something about hoping that the Thursday crowd would be better because the Wednesday audience was subdued, or something to that effect. We also got Androgynous. I wonder if Paul aggrivated his back throwing those water bottles? He was really hurling them up there. And they started out the night like they were shot out of a cannon, or had something to prove. The first four songs were at breakneck pace.
I thought it was hilarous when they called for a stool for Paul to sit on, and for the next song instead of sitting on it he stood on it and leaned over to sing in the mic. That couldn't have helped his back.
When I get some time this weekend I'll be uploading a few videos to YouTube, and will cross-post here.

Also Seen Your Video. As to Tommy's remarks about the first night crowd, I was at both nights and I really didn't notice the crowd being that much more responsive the second night, or unresponsive either night. But this is my perspective from up in the balcony. After getting beaten up by the crowd up front at Midway Stadium we decided to relax upstairs with a good view at these shows. Also, the crowd was really old. I was somewhat shocked by the serious aging of the fan base at the show, but maybe the floor had some youngster actin' types. No offense to my fellow old farts.

Went to both nights in Chicago. The 2nd show was far superior. They were on a mission. Even though they wore the matching suits night 1, they somehow looked more like a band on night two, and to a man, were dressed very cool. Early in the set, maybe right after "Seen Your Video", Paul turned to Dave, clenched a victory fist, and said "That was a noble fucking effort!" There was something Strummer-esque about this moment, perhaps my favorite ever at a Replacements show. Where Paul seemed tentative the night before, he was positively unleashed on night two. He was more committed to "Androgynous" than the previous festival performances I've seen, and just seemed to sing everything with a lot of heart. Of course, he still bails on a lot of vocal lines. Near the end of "Nevermind," Tommy looked over at Paul and Dave, neither of whom were singing, and he started belting out the refrain. Tommy, too, seemed more pumped on night two. "I Will Dare" was given a more faithful rendition on night 2, and Dave's approximation of the mandolin parts was very sweet. The stage was bathed in blue lights for "Within Your Reach," and it had a disco vibe with an 80's sheen, the former courtesy of Josh's insistent 4-on-the-floor beat, and the latter a product of Dave's tasteful but slick atmospheric chorus-y and delay effects. For me it was the stunner of the stand. As has been noted, "I.O.U." was faster and harder than usual and just absolutely ferocious. Paul introduced it by saying, "I know there's a lot of good songs we didn't play, but (raspberry)."
Tommy was definitely on the crowd night 1. I thought the crowd was good both nights. It was often quiet between songs on night 1, but I think it was mostly a result of some awkward lulls on the part of the band. "The Ledge" was a highlight of night 1, almost like a preview of the intensity of night 2.

Within Your Reach. Lighting was horrible on this one, for any video recording. Had to zoom in to see any detail of Paul, and had to convert to black-and-white for better contrast. Does anyone recognize, or can anyone figure out, the different lyrics?

I thought this show was great. But why was Josh in the dark all night? I kinda bet Paul was messing with him. I also thought within your reach was really great. 20th Century Boy sounded great too. Paul was definitely fired up to play. there was no acoustic set and they just tore it up most of the night. And seeing the roadie pitching the tent was hilarious.
There also was a guitar throw and catch between Paul and Chief. It was a fastball line drive but Chief got it. During a lull I yelled out for Answering Machine and Paul responded with "You'll go to your grave before we ever play Answering Machine".
It's two days later and i'm still hoarse. A great time was had and now I'm pissed I didn't plan to go to milwaukee.

Veets were you on the rail behind the main floor? I was in front of Paul 4 people deep.

Yep, on the rail, a smidge right of center. Wednesday was my day to be up front, over by Tommy and behind a tall dude who was on the rail. Paul seemed to be happy enough with Dave. (Photos below.) It seemed that both Josh and Dave were more in the dark both nights. Maybe intentional? Attachments:

Does anyone recognize, or can anyone figure out, the different lyrics? He forgot the verse, so he does the Paul trick of just vocalizing random syllables in it's place. Pretty much nothing after "mountain" is actual words.

I can handle an unfavorable review but this guy (girl?) seems to have a level of vitriol towards the band that can't be explained by one "bad" show. To Hell With The Replacements

"Kissed On The Bus" ? Maybe he has a point. To just the casual fan or someone new they probably WEREN'T impressed. But to those in the know - well, we know what's what now don't we? Fuck that guy. Paul has always played guitar like he does now. But to knock Minehan and say he was blowing chords and generally bad? What show was he watching? Minehan is the essence of rock and roll. Sorry to stereotype but this guy sounds like a too cool, 30 something hipster D-bag.

I can handle an unfavorable review but this guy (girl?) seems to have a level of vitriol towards the band that can't be explained by one "bad" show. To Hell With The Replacementsthe last comment, from "britton vanhorn", makes up for the proudly ignorant tone of the review: "I don't think there are any 'casual' Replacements fans. There's us that love them and the others that don't care. That's just fine"
