That knockin on mine is awesome Josh is relentless Agreed...This was a great backing band for him...How about Kevin Bowe? (That is Kevin Bowe, isn't it?) Great lead guitarist who really seemed to have an affinity for this era of Westerberg material, does a nice job on the backing vocals, and really gives everything an extra kick in the ass with a dose of high energy...Like how Paul occasionally looks over at him and sorta gives a nod of approval...All of these performances get a good audience reaction, but the one here seems extra enthusiastic...Paul's rip at the end is really cool, too...

Nah, that's Dave Minnehan from Boston's The Neighborhoods, currently playing with the Replacements.
He played in Paul's first solo band in support of '14 Songs'.

Just wanna give credit where credit is due...Dave is the guy I saw at ACL last October...He was great, too...Tough gig: Paul's second guitar player...The only worse gig would be anybody in Dylan's touring band: "Oh, you wanted us to change keys on the fourth verse of "Knocking On Heaven's Door", even though we've never done that before, and we've never rehearsed it, and you never mentioned it before?!!!" I wonder how many really good musicians big guys lost along the way just because guys said: "Fuck this asshole!" I find this really hilarious...

Yup, Dave's a great player - loads of energy and focus, fine backing vox.
I do miss Slim (who doesn't?), though I doubt he woulda done the reunion anyway. Those slo-mo leads of his, where he'd just find some idiosyncratic chord shape and just SQUEEZE the notes out, just let them ooze. The polar opposite of Bob.
But yeah, it's gotta be a tough gig, as Paul's no slouch on the guitar his own bad self. He's had some great 2nd players/foils though - Dave, Tommy Keene, Kevin Bowe.

Aren't they supposed to be airing every episode of SNL on VH1 Classic this month? Hopefully someone catches them and uploads these in much better quality.

I think NBC is pretty draconian when it comes to having clips up. I looked on YT and there was nothing. I don't know why they elect to leave the clips on Daily Motion alone but works for me I was kinda looking forward to the SNL anniversary show tonight until I saw it was THREE AND 1/2 HOURS...who the hell has that kind of attention span (definitely not me). I think it's Downton Abbey and Better Call Saul for me.

Someone re-posted this on the FB page, it was originally posted a few years ago by Josh Freese on his FB page so some of you may have already seen it but it's the inside scoop on "burt Reynolds!" From Josh Freese FB page: SPOILER ALERT....NO PUNCHLINE. (A Paul Westerberg/Burt Reynolds Story)

True or not, I had read that all past cast members, hosts, and musical guests were invited to the SNL 40th anniversary deal going on tonight on nbc. Doubtful, I suppose, that any of the Replacements would show up but who knows.

I can never hear the name Dave and not think about Cheech and Chong's drug humor skit about "Dave" But yeah, Dave's energy is awesome....
