Saw them in Austin and although I loved the show it doesn't even compare to last night. The entire audience was into the show and the band was as well. I don't even know if I have the words to describe the difference. Although there were tons of Mats fans at ACL, to have an entire audience singing along with the band was incredible…I never wanted it to end. Loved seeing all the teenagers and talked to a 15 year old boy who told me it was his first concert. He couldn't have picked a better one. t cannot wait to see them again!!! It is so much better to see The Mats with all Mats fans... the singalongs just warm my heart. No asshole Pearl Jam fans to create a goddamn wall in front of us is great as well! This tour was definitely a love letter to us fans (along with our slow/human text shirt message) & I'm so thankful they did this!

It's probably been said before, but it is amazing to be around a few thousand Mats fans singing along, instead of a few hundred. I've seen them 4 times on this reunion. One indoors(Wash), one at a festival(Boston), one on a tennis court(NYC) and one on a fake beach(Phil). Who would have thought?

Forest Hills was my favorite, hands down. I loved everything about it. Also saw Riot Fest Denver, Boston Calling, The Sinclair and Philly, but there was just something about FH that sticks with me.

I'd only seen them once before the philly show... in montreal last summer at a festival where they played an hour or more before the main headliner, Arctic Monkeys. Thousands of AM fans had lined up hours and hours in advance and were not letting anyone near a decent viewing distance and they particularly didn't want to have fun watching the mats or allow anyone else to enjoy it either. what I got out of the show was kind of a 'fuck you I'm going to enjoy this no matter how lame you guys are' kinda feeling (slightly reminding me of feeling punk rock), but I really couldn't get into the music like I'd have liked.
The philly show was about a million times better. In large part it was because everyone there was cool, friendly, and really wanted to be there. The rest was because I got exactly what I wanted out of seeing the replacements: they sounded great, were having fun, but they also got sloppy at times... maybe not like they are legendary for, but enough for me to get a feel for it. Anyway, it was a great time!!

I agree, Kathy. I've seen four shows on the reunion tour (Chicago, Atlanta, Forest Hills, and Philly), and I thought Forest Hills was the best. In fact, it ranks up there with one of the best shows I have ever seen. The energy of the crowd was unbelievable, and I think the band was taken aback by it and genuinely touched. I never thought I'd see 12,000 people singing in unison to "Bastards of Young," but there it was. Philly was good, too. Good sound, and Paul sounded great. It was packed! Are the Mats more popular than ever now...?

Great review from Philly sports guy Reuben Frank.
25. Speaking of The Replacements ... Saturday night at Festival Pier was one of those nights that makes you so proud to be from Philly. To see 7,000 people squeezing in there to see Superchunk and The Replacements on a gorgeous evening in the shadow of the Ben Franklin Bridge was the best. The vibe was so perfect. Everybody was supportive of the remarkable Superchunk, whose powerhouse drummer, Jon Wurster, is from Philly. And when the 'Mats hit the stage, it was just insanity. Hearing 7,000 people singing along to classics like Alex Chilton, Can’t Hardly Wait and I Will Dare was unforgettable. So many concerts have that inevitable faction of jerks who are there for no discernible reason. They’re disinterested, distracted, blabbering non-stop, staring at their cellphones, and depending on the venue, they can really drag down the atmosphere. This was totally different. Everybody was there to experience the ragged brilliance of the 'Mats. This was just one big sweaty heaping pile of Philly music fans bouncing up and down and digging one of the greatest bands ever. It was glorious.

Are the Mats more popular than ever now...? The thing about Forest Hills, and it might be my imagination, but I thought I felt the ground shake after Alex Chilton. It might of been because of people jumping in the seats in the back and I was standing toward the back. Also, the acoustics of the place seemed to make the crowd louder.
