nice photos! Sounds like they're hitting their stride? I'm getting excited to see them in Boston.
Scott McCaughey there? Cool...

Is that "Devil Raised a Good Boy" on the "B" setlist?? I may need to reconsider and sell a kidney (or a kid and find my way to St.Paul or Austin. My thought exactly! I'd love to hear that one played live with this band. After seeing Toronto, Chicago, and Atlanta I thought I'd sit out the rest on this tour, but now I'm reconsidering!

Like I said earlier, I was at The Replacements show at Bumbershoot in Seattle on Sunday. I’m gonna share my review. Some may be things other people mentioned, but I wanna get it out there.
This show was a “Bucket List” show for me. I’m 27 and got in to The Replacements about 11 years ago when I was in high school. Sure, “Election Day” was probably being recorded and written on the day of my birth, and I may not have been there for the days of yore, but this band change my life and is just as relevant and meaningful to me as anyone else. I will say this gig surpassed my expectations and some of my friends who weren’t as knowledgeable on the band were very very impressed.
Anyway, myself and a few other Replacements friends of mine from Seattle where really looking forward to this gig. I flew up from Oakland for the show (used to live in Seattle.) We also got there an hour early find a place to stand. Lots of Replacements shirts and a few Green Day shirts spotted, as well.
The Mat’s started right on time, and ran out from the back of stage left to the stage, sans Billie Joe. Paul was wearing a Batman shirt with a plaid grey suit vest and you knew this was going to be a good show. Paul declared “We are no longer the The Cements, the worlds greatest Replacements cover band, we ARE The Replacements!”. It’s like, yeah, you are the fucking Replacements, damn right! They launched in to “Favorite Thing”, which happens to be one of my favorite songs. I was a bit in awe the first few songs. The sound was fantastic and the crowd was rocking out and singing along. Lots of smiling from the band.
Lots and lots of earlier songs. “Taking a Ride” “Don’t Ask Why”, “Hospital” “White and Lazy” “Im in Trouble”. Surprises included Love You in The Fall (Paul stated was “an honorary Replacements song”) and “Nowhere is My Home” (Paul forgot the first line and immediate shouted out a loud laugh at himself.) A bit of a deviation in terms of setlist order overall, from what I could tell.
Before “I’ll Be You”, Paul says “Now we’re going to play the one where I always forget the second chorus” he looks at Tommy and asks “Are you gonna help me remember?” then scoffs as if to say “nah, you won’t”
A giant beach ball is being thrown around in the crowd. Tommy says “Send it here…I gotta knife!”. They make a joke about this being like Romper Room. Paul then says “Maybe when we grow up and become adults, they will let us play in the dark”, a comment about not being big enough to play later in the evening. A pretty genius quote. Paul later asks if “they should play any songs by Lorde” (I didn’t think he would have known who Lorde was.). Fitting, I think they launched in to a Jackson 5 cover next.
They ended the main set with “Bastards”. A big rush of people going nuts allowed me to get a few people up, one or two people from the barrier, where I sang along with some very enthusiastic grey haired ladies.
They left for approximately 1 minute, then Paul runs out, grabs the mic stand and climbs down to the photo pit. Earlier in the day, I read on twitter rumors of a “surprise Westerberg acoustic set”, somewhere unannounced. For a minute I thought he was coming down to play acoustic, but it turned out to be full-band encore. It took him a few minutes to get the mic where he wanted. There was a bunch of feedback to which he said “they’ll fix that”. The rest of the band comes out, and Dave sat down on the edge of the stage, facing Paul, where they and the band played “Left of The Dial” with Pauls back to the crowed.
Paul climbed back on stage after “Dial”. He and Josh discussed whether to play “IOU” or “Alex Chilton”, deciding on “Chilton”. They killed it. They left and the crowed continued to chant until they lights (unfortunately) came back on.
It was a great show. Paul has a way of singing with such conviction, and most of all, presence, that I don't think many other singer / song writers deliver. They seemed in the moment and enjoying themselves. Go see these dudes while they are still hot.

Man, Love you in the Fall, the possibility of Devil and a Dream Syndicate show. I would have been in heaven. I sure hope they do a club tour. FWIW-Syndicate is also doing a few other shows. I'll be @ Echoplex

I'm still smiling after seeing the Mats on Sunday at Bumbershoot.... I also saw them at Shaky Knees in May and have to say Bumbershoot was gnarlier (for lack of a better word)... First off - NO BILLIE JOE! I'm not a huge GD fan... I appreciate the fact that BJA is a big fan but I prefer him not being on-stage as he's a distraction. Couldn't agree more. I'm going to Boston Calling on Sunday and I'm hoping Billie Joe is nowhere to be found.

I need to hear/see "Love You In The Fall"!...I always thought of that as a proper Mats tune myself. Weren't 'Love you in the Fall' and 'Right to Arm Bears' recorded with the same lineup (even at the same time) as 'Pool and Dive' and 'Message to the Boys'? I feel like they just decided to call the latter two 'Mats songs.

Same line-up, Paul, Tommy and Josh, but I do think they were recorded at different times, as "Love You" and "Right" were part of the whole Open Season soundtrack thing.

Take Me Down to the Hospital I was too drunk/lazy to type the whole thing. I got stuck on thinking the "T" was "The" and that doomed me (I would suck at Wheel of Fortune).

There was a crack about Seattle and eyebrows where I didn't catch what he said exactly (referencing the eyebrow shaving incident from the late 80's). Probably not essential for me to post that, but will anyway.
It does look like a bit more material is surfacing on YouTube. Good to see it from different angles. The back of my head/baseball cap is in the 49 second long Jackson 5 cover video that's been up for a few days already. I told someone at work that and he told me I was famous.

I'm sure I'm not the only one but "I Want You Back" is a lifelong fav. I still remember seeing the J5 performance on TV when I was a kid. I'm hoping for an act of divinity that will allow me to afford a ticket.
