I was at that 96 Fillmore Show too and remember seeing this setlist being posted & thinking it was a mistake - because I swore he played Stain Yer Blood in that slot...

Guess we won't know for sure until someone hears a tape of the show. But "Stain Yer Blood" makes sense. He played that at the first Irving Plaza show in NYC when I saw him, too.

Somewhat OT....I seem to remember an interview to promote Eventually where PW stated that he had recorded nearly a records worth of stuff with Brendan O' Brien and scrapped it because it sounded too Mats-like....I think Stain is from those sessions.

Anyone know of a source for this... If this is true I hope we get it in that box set they were talking about a few years back.

Alright, I'll be the one to ask..... this thread came into mind when I saw the new I Don't Cares post about a song of the same title... same song or just re-purposed title?
I'm definitely in the "very excited to hear the new record" group. I've noticed a lot of people complaining about his teaming up with Juliana.. but I'm just real happy to hear his voice again. I'll take whatever he's dishing out. Actually kinda nice to hear just him just playing "whatever he wants" with whoever he wants.. that just tells me that any pressure on him created by the Mats reunion didn't paralyze him musically - actually seemed to do the opposite: got him back on his feet and in the mood to share what he's been working on again!

itunes.apple.com/us/album/king-of-america-single/id1061103317?ls=1 Best PW tune in years. Vocals are great, guitar solo is cool, production is great. Definitely doesn't have that "first take no matter what" feel. Love it. I don't hear Juliana in there. Maybe she's blended in the harmonies or playing a guitar or something. Hate buying music on iTunes, but had to do it. Best buck I've spent in a while.

Cool -- old unreleased or reworked songs, new material, solo stuff, rough stuff, polished stuff... I'll gladly take it all! But yeah, this was a nice surprise today!

Strange to include old stuff on a record from a "new band." Still, I'll take it.

Dang it, when I try to purchase the track from itunes I get "this item is not currently available in the United States" I definitely hear Juliana blended into the harmonies in the "gimme some, gimme some," bridge part .... It's low in the mix but she's there! It's a new recording.

Great song. It's a plus there's no JH lurking, but yeah, what's the deal with having old songs and new? No one can replace Colvin on 'Born for me' ..except maybe Lucinda Williams.

I'm good with a new Born for Me as a duet. I think it works better. I've always loved unKevin and Madison's version.

I'd like to hear the perspective changed and have JH take the lead and see how they change things up.
BTW happy birthday Kathy. I hope you have a great day!!!

Really enjoying this one. I guess I can see how it might not have fit with the rest of Eventually, but I think the outtakes I've heard from that album are as good as anything on it.
I wonder if this is just the exact Eventually cut or if they've done any other overdubs?
Also, does anyone know if there are any other confirmed "old" songs off the new album aside from "Outta My System," "Born for Me" and this?

So now that he's opening his vault, can we ever get a chance to hear "Cheyenne" and "Tear Drops in the Rain"? I think both of those were supposed to be from the Eventually sessions.

I'm excited there's some new music coming our way, but find it a bit surprising that there are quite a few old songs on this new "collaboration". I thought Darren Hill has been repeatedly quoted as saying Paul has been very prolific and sitting on a ton of unreleased material. Just a bit curious then as to why some of these are being re-hashed here.
In any case, I love King of America and am looking forward to the record. Very anxious to hear what type of production will be employed on these cuts....
