With Paul's best band together at last, Who would like to see them put together an entire acoustic set, record a DVD and really play up to his songwriting. Maybe even work some of his solo material in, such as "Crackle & Drag", "Runaway Wind"?

Totally agree on capturing this band on tape. Having witnessed the power of last Sunday's show, however, I totally disagree about an acoustic set - they need to capture the loose, raw, rockin' tour-de-force that is The Mats right now, before that flame goes out. Roll in the Marshalls and Gibson guitars, turn it up, press "Record" and get out of the way. Without exaggeration, the band was on fire from the first note and wildly exceeded every expectation of this longtime fan. Took me two days to reach Toronto (nevermind a ten-hour nonstop drive home through pouring rain the following day) just to see a band play for an hour or so at an outdoor festival. One of the best decisions I ever made.

I'm with Chris, at this stage an acoustic set would be a waste of a great band. I wouldn't want to see Neil Young & Crazy Horse do an acoustic set, I kinda feel the same way with the current Mats line-up. When you have Tommy, Dave and Josh at your disposal, you want to make the most of it and tap into your rock 'n' roll side.
I would love to see an acoustic set at some point if Paul were to do another solo tour in smaller venues. That would be the ideal setting to do that, but right now, after the Sunday show, it's definitely all about the unbridled rock 'n' roll for me, and the band I'm pretty sure.

A definite no to acoustic. And a definite yes to a dvd. Paul had all the acoustic time he needed over the past 20 years. It's time to plug in again.

Odd man out here.
Great comments folks and I do agree that he should probably keep everything plugged in, at least for the duration of a tour -YET- the prospect of Paul's tunes mixed with an all acoustic set is just too much for me to pass with this phenomenal lineup.
If they sounded that good plugged-in, just imagine.

Tommy is a rocker. The Replacements are one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever. I think PW wrote his best acoustic material when he was writing it behind the bands back.
I mean if The Beatles could reunite you wouldn't want them to put out Plastic Ono Band part 2.The shades are off. This doesn't feel like a PW solo project,it feels like The Mats. The Toronto show alone, regardless of what comes next, has raised the rock and roll bar back to where it belongs and hopefully inspires all current and future rock and rollers to dig a little deeper and aim a little higher than what gets passed off now days as rock and roll. That's the DVD I want to see.Though capable,I can't see them banking on the "p*ssy set" as they themselves used to call it.
It seems that the goal since the mats signed to a major label was to showcase Paul's songwriting talent and that angle never really works. Why quell this momentum with what was possibly the bands downfall?
Maybe one thing that the bands lore was lacking was evidence of their greatness beyond the albums. It had all been word of mouth and hit and miss bootlegs...until Toronto. If Paul gets ambitious and wants to record solo and Replacements albums the way the Faces recorded band albums and Rod solo albums,I'd love that.

Dee, great post. I guess I am jumping waaaaay too far ahead and not just enjoying the moment here.
You do bring up a great point for me personally, where I'd probably be more interested in seeing a Beatles acoustic set to spotlight Lennon's songwriting as well. i.e "Across the Universe" VS. "Me & My Monkey"
WAIT A MINUTE....I change my mind.
I'm just totally fired-up about the possibilities...sorta like how the Mescaleros fired-up Joe Strummer to make some of his finest music of his life in his 50s.

Personally, playing things acoustically doesn't spotlight the song any more than plugging in. If it's a rocker, it's a rocker, and if its a skyway type song then it acoustic as its meant to be.

I certainly think a few, slower, quieter songs are totally acceptable for the reunion shows. Nightclub Jitters, Here Comes A Regular and If Only you were Lonely are all good choices imo
