Have there been any interviews with these guys on what they thought of the show? Does anyone know if a documentary crew was following them from start to finish. If not, that would of been prettry cool. Hopefully someone thought that thru..... Following those two from their houses to the stage would of been killer!

I'm curious too as to how it felt for them to crank out those tunes with each other again. And what was the response from the other bands on the bill to them reuniting?
I really hope that someone was filming this part of the Mats history, the backstage stuff, the rehearsals, peer reaction at the festival to the Mats, etc...

And what was the response from the other bands on the bill to them reuniting? During the Dinosaur Jr. set, Lou Barlow mentioned how The Stooges and The Replacements were two of their biggest influences. Later I spotted J. Mascis bopping his head quite a bit during The Replacements set as he watched from the side of the stage. The Weakerthans mentioned how excited they were to be on the bill, their lead singer was standing in the front row shortly before The Mats were about to take the stage. I have a feeling there was quite a bit of excitement amongst the musicians regarding the reunion. The excitement went both ways I think. Tommy was standing a few feet in front of us for a bit watching Mike Watt and Iggy perform their asses off.

J posted a picture of him and Tommy to his instagram. My dream would be to have J play guitar on a new Mats album.

I really hope this gets Tommy and Paul amped up by the feedback from their peers, the fans, the media--enough to maybe want to play some more dates. I also wonder if Paul has a satisfied feeling, something akin to, "See? We knew all along we were a great band and we just proved it to you fuckers!" Ok, maybe not in a "I told you so" fashion (that's more my projection), but I hope the reception makes Paul feel like this is a much better situation to write this chapter of Mats history than the Grant Park concert. It's as if he wasn't always comfortable with how they ended back in 1991, but now this is the chance to go out the way perhaps he would like to. Also, Josh Freese's thoughts on playing with the Mats: consequenceofsound.net/2013/08/rock-it-out-blog-josh-freese-talks-the-replacements-reunion/

I love Dinosaur as much as the next guy, but I woudn't be in favor of that. J has such a recognizable, signature sound that I'm afraid it would overwhelm the songs and they wouldn't end up sounding anything like the Mats [aside from the vocals]. J recorded some songs with the Lemonheads a few years back and they were tasty - but it just sounded like a poppier version of Dinosaur with Evan Dando guesting on vocals.

A few interesting thoughts from Dave Minehan: www.boston.com/names/2013/08/26/guitarist-dave-minehan-subs-for-replacements/b2uVbuhJGaASEcvgagz0eO/story.htmlFrom Josh's tweet: "Unbelievable show last night with The Replacements. 10K strong outdoors in Toronto. Westerberg changed into a Montreal hockey jersey for the encore (I. O. U.) Still a provoker and punker at heart. I've seen a million people change into the home town jersey of whatever city they're in to receive a bunch of cheap applause but NEVER the other way around! Even dodged a few bottles. Never a dull moment with The Mats."

I think J's sound is very similar to Bob's in a lot of ways. They both play with so much wild emotion. That sort of presence on a new set of Mats songs is a very exciting idea in my mind. I'd rather they throw a curveball like that than try to find somebody who plays just like Slim. Slim is amazing, rock solid and dependable, but Paul is at his best when there's some wild abandon thrown into the mix. J has heart and unpredictability, but he's still a super technical player who can be relied upon to deliver. It seems like the perfect combination of the best qualities of Bob and Slim.
But yeah, it's just a wild dream based on one instagram pic.
