Just adding myself to the list if a meet up is happening. I'll be coming solo from Buffalo and also have VIP. I'm too young to have awesome stories from the olden days but I'd love to hear some.

Very cool...we will all have to meet up before and go through all our "war stories"....I know I have a few! It's also great to hear that there are younger fans of the Mats that may have just discovered them more recently...so much of their music is really timeless, and many modern bands would love to be able to write stuff like Paul and the boys were doing 30 years ago!

In for Toronto. Has a meet-up destination been selected yet? From the hotels thread it sounds like a good number of out-of-towners are staying at the Renaissance downtown.

In for Toronto. Has a meet-up destination been selected yet? Not yet. I've added a few more suggestions to my original list though. Here are a few suggestions for possible meet up places. I tried to pick ones fairly close to the venue and west end hotels that most out-of-towners are probably staying at. They’re all fairly big so they can accommodate a big group if necessary and are casual establishments; decent places to hang out, have some food, drink and conversation: SATURDAY NIGHT (Slightly further from venue but closer to the downtown core. Good area for bar hopping):
Irish Embassy Pub and Grill - 49 Yonge Street • 416-866-8282 • Sat & Sun: 11:00am - 2:00am (Good place to hang out with friends and have some food and drinks.)
P.J. O'Brien Irish Pub & Restaurant - 39 Colborne Steet • 416-815-7562 • Sat: 11:00am - 2:00am/Sun: closed (A few blocks away from Irish Embassy. Another fun place to hang out for drinks.)
Bier Markt - 58 The Esplanade • 416-862-7575 • Sat: 11:00am - 2:00am/Sun: 11:00am - 1:00am (Another good choice, and it's fairly close to P.J. O'Brien's and the Irish Embassy, just in case someone is considering a bit of a pub crawl.)
SUNDAY AFTERNOON (Closer to venue so good area for a before show meet up. Also good area to do some bar hopping):Bier Markt - 600 King Street West • 416-862-1175 • Sat: 11:00am - 2:00am/Sun: 11:00am - 1:00am (Less than a km away from the venue, roughly a 10 minute walk. This one is the closest to the venue and another good option to hang out for food and drinks.)
Jack Astor's - 133 John Street • 416-595-9100 • Sat: 11:00am - 2:00am/Sun: 11:00am - 1:00am (This place has 2 floors so lots of space. I go here to meet up with friends on a Friday night from time to time.) Fionn MacCool's - 310 Front Street W. • 416-340-1917 • Sat: 10:00am - 1:00am/Sun: 10:00am - 11:00pm (I don't think I’ve ever been to the one at this location but I’ve been to a few of the other locations. Decent place for food and drinks from what I recall. This one is the closest to the venue of the bunch I've listed for what it's worth.) Shoeless Joe's Sports Grill - 276 King Street W. • 416-596-4203 • Sat & Sun: 11:30am - 2:00am (Sort of a generic bar & grill. Not a bad place to hang out for a few drinks and a meal.) Town Crier Pub & Halfway Beer House - 115 John Street • 416-204-9588 • Sat & Sun: 11:00am - 2:00am (Never been in here but walked by it a ton of times. It sounds like it has a great selection of beer, and decent food choices. It's just a few doors down from Jack Astor's.)
Any of the ones listed for Sunday are also good for a Saturday night—and vice versa—if one doesn't want to venture over to the Yonge Street area. For Saturday night I'd recommend starting at the Irish Embassy (they take reservations, good if a big group is going.) For Sunday afternoon—before the festival—the Beir Markt (600 King Street West) being so close to the venue makes it the obvious first choice. Of course, if anyone has other suggestions please throw them out there I can add them to the list.

I was thinking of setting up a Google Docs spreadsheet for everyone planning on attending. If you send me a private message here with your email address, I can add you to the spreadsheet. I figure this might be the best way to organize and also allow us to find the rest of the group either Saturday night, Sunday afternoon or at the show. If you all think this is a good idea, let me know and I'll get right on it.

The Horseshoe Tavern is one of my favorite places to see a show. Sometimes the sound isn't great but the atmosphere makes up for it.

Well all of these are great suggestions. I remember a place called Velvet Underground, a little Indie bar on either Queen or Bloor that's pretty cool, but quite a ways from the Fort. Same for Lee's Palace-good place for a show, etc. Also, I will be coming up on Friday. Anyone else? Let me know. I like all of us meeting up. We stick together or we hang separately.

So I started the contact spreadsheet. All of your information will be accessible only to the members of this group. If you want in, just send me your email address by private message and I'll shoot you an invite. I noticed a post on Facebook from Gorman Bechard (director of the Mats doc and author of The Second Greatest Story Ever Told) indicating that he's coming in for the Toronto show. Maybe I'll shoot him an invite once we know where we are meeting up. I'm sure he's got some great stories to tell.

If you have sent me your email address, then I have already given you access to the spreadsheet. Check your inbox (or spam folder) for the link and then add your contact info to the document. The plan is to send out group texts or emails the weekend of the show updating everyone as to meeting locations, etc.

I didn't want to start a new topic just for the weather, so thought I'd throw it in here. Long range forecast for next Sunday is a high of 25, low of 15. Don't worry, Americans, that's Celsius! High of 77, low of 59, mostly sunny with probability of precipitation 30%. And we know the weather forecasters are never wrong!

I have to play both Friday and Saturday gigs so I don't know what time I'll get on the road Sunday morning.... Hopefully early enough to see The Weakerthans and Iggy. If I get out earlier from Detroit, I'll keep an eye on this thread and maybe hook up with you fellow Matfans....

I don't know if there is an access problem or whatever, but the spreadsheet isn't taking off. Just continue to PM your email addresses to me and I'll keep them on file and then send out a group email once meeting places have been confirmed.

Would be grateful if someone just posted the meeting place(s) here. Particularly Sunday pre-show. Thanks!

Let's meet up at that bar The Kids in the Hall used to hang out at. Haha.
Either way, I'm down to meet up. Would love to talk to a bunch of you!

Anyone interested in searching vintage clothing/book stores in T if there is time? Anyone know of some good ones? The Kensington Market area has quite a few vintage clothing stores, as well as some nice little restaurants and shops. Good place to walk around on a summer's day. There's some great book stores in the city. If you're looking for new, "The World's Biggest Bookstore" on Edward Street is a great place to go. For used there's a bunch of good ones: "BMV Books" has a few locations and is definitely one to check out (conveniently there's one right beside "The World's Biggest Bookstore.") "Balfour Books" is another good used one I'd recommend. There are a few other good ones and many with a good selection of used records/CDs. Okay, did a quick search found this list, it pretty much covers most of the best ones: www.blogto.com/toronto/the_best_used_bookstores_in_toronto/And here's one for vintage clothes: www.blogto.com/toronto/the_best_vintage_clothing_stores_in_toronto/

Thanks Mod man! I'm taking notes. I also heard about one called Monkey's Paw that has a book-o-matic book dispensing machine. Looks pretty cool.
Also, for those going to Toronto: When is the Grandpaboy costume contest and what are the prizes and should we have a safe word when things get cray cray. I suggest "Fairfax" or "centipede".

Ignore the mod tag, I don't have any moderator powers, it shouldn't really be there. I haven't been to the Monkey's Paw. I'll have to check it out next time I'm in that area.
