I finally watched this...It has been up on YouTube, in its entirety...Feel kinda guilty about just taking a free pass at it...I was one of those people who quibbled a lot about it before I saw it - wasn't really the "full" documentary I wanted; how could they make a film about the Replacements without any actual Replacements, or even any of their music, blah, blah, blah...Think I even took a few snarky swipes at Gorman...Well, I really enjoyed it. Turns out, watching a bunch of guys and girls (mostly) around my age (and weight class) rhapsodizing about their (and my) favorite band, was right up my alley...

I never really bought that they just chose to not include the band in music or interviews. I always thought that was a spin after they realized they couldn't afford the songs themselves, something they ran with. It's interesting for me to watch as a dedicated fan who knows a lot of their story, certainly knows all of the songs, and got a different perspective from more insider types. I wonder though how the documentary would play to a more casual or even non-fan...maybe that's never been the point.

It's pretty easy to say "oh we never even wanted the band or music involved" when the task was just too difficult to do. I really enjoyed it, but it certainly left me wanting for a proper 'Mats doc.

I absolutely hated it. No music and nothing of the members, I just didn't see the point. Hell, I already know they are the greatest rock n roll band ever, I don't need to hear a bunch of other people crapping on about it. I could just have a discussion with my friends about the Mats if that was the case. Kudos to the guy for having a go at putting out something like this, but I just felt it felt way short of the mark. It could have (and should have) been something the Replacements really deserve, instead it just felt to me like an amateur documentary a high school kid made.

It should have been a cartoon. Although they did have that unrelated one on the Disney Channel a few years back....

Finally got around to seeing it a few weeks ago. Tried watching it again the other night but got bored after 10 minutes and turned on something else. Probably won't watch it again either. This is one of its biggest problems for me - the rewatchability factor - which is pretty much zero.
I would have preferred something more like "The Kids Are Arlight" - something I've watched countless times over the last 20 plus years. Now, I've probably watched the Who play "Sparks" from Woodstock or "A Quick One" from The R&R Circus a couple hundred times and they still, to this day, gives me chills and blow my mind.
Would have been nice to have that same kind of feeling watching this film.
It was also a bit of a shock to see all these old, fat, gray haired people sittin' around talking about my second favorite band. And mind you, I'm 43 myself. Felt like I was at some boring family function listening to all my older relatives going on and on about the "good ol' days".
It just made me realize that I am "old" now and that the 'Mats haven't been around or relevant in several decades. Again, it wasn't a timeless, joyous, funny, loud celebration of the band and their music like "The Kids" is, or like a doc about the Replacements SHOULD have been, it was just mostly... depressing.
I appreciate all the love, time and effort Gorman put into the project but for me - huge disappointment.

I watched this last night and really enjoyed it. The lack of music or Mats' in the film was not an issue for me. People who are fans of the band already have the songs tattooed in their brains anyway, and people discovering the band for the first time will have their curiosity piqued by all the stories, and will no doubt search out the music afterwards. It's sort of a throwback to the old days—pre-internet—where you'd read a music book or magazine about a band and go buy the record. The film opens the door but leaves it up to the viewer to pursue things further, I kinda like that.

The movie was interesting...but failed as a full length movie....and NO, it will never convince anyone to dive deeper into the Mats.

There were some interesting interviews...I really liked hearing from the specific producers to get insight into the albums. Could have used more of those, or even stand-alone youtube clips, than fans talking up their romantic exploits with Tommy. It didn't help that the production value was pretty flimsy at times.

I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to... and yet, I still hope a "proper" documentary is made about the band.
