I just picked up the Only Ones series of Original Albums Classics. It sounds excellent. All three of their releases for $9.I've recently discovered these little box sets. There's a lot of really good artists in this series. The CD sleeves come with original front and back cover artwork.
It would be nice to see the Replacements catalog get this treatment. It's nothing too fancy, but it's a good deal, and way better than most of the repackaging of artists, that are either over priced or bargain bin shoddy.I wouldn't even mind if there were no bonus tracks. It would be a good opportunity for them to re-mix Don't Tell A Soul.

I would buy a remixed Don't Tell A Soul. They need to sand that baby down till it's rough.

Good idea, Dee.
Great way to phrase that idea, TomT! As much as I've always liked DTAS as it is I can picture enjoying it nicely roughed up.

Ya, what's with the wooo-hoooo-oooohh-ooh's? I recently found them distracting, but I've heard it hundreds of times...

I didn't like the add on's at the end of the tracks on the recent reissues. Why ruin the integrity of the track?Make the add on's their own tracks. That vault effect didn't work for me.If anything they could have scrapped the vault effect and put the tidbits that were at the very end of the CD's after the last song of official album,as it's own track, instead of the vault effect. Then we'd get the idea we're heading into unknown territory. It would've been a better effect in my opinion.
If they remixed DTAS they should listen to their version of Cruella Deville and Wake Up then proceed. Those tunes were pretty no frills, but good.

I thought the Rhino reissues were pretty great though I know alot of people didn't. Some songs were clipped and those footsteps at the end leading to the bonus tracks really annoy alot of people. But for me those records sounded great even if they were compressed - I remember buying Let it Be/Tim/PTMM in those editions - loving them but then coming on here and hearing how much I shouldn't be liking them. On some level any chance to reissue is something I support in theory - in that it raises the opportunity for new people to discover a band.

I don't begrudge anyone their right to enjoy them, but those reissues were a missed opportunity from the packaging to the various deficiencies of the mastering. They even botched the mp3 versions. I purchased the downloadable version of PTMM, because I was disappointed enough with the cd editions of the other albums I bought, and the levels are at an unlistenably low volume. A total waste of money. I don't understand why no one can get it right when it comes to the various reissues. They deserve so much better.

A low volume could actually be a good thing, as that means it's not as "bricked" (compressed) as most current CD releases.

In theory, yeah. The first set of Twin Tone remasters simply cranked up the volume and called them "remastered," so I know what you're saying about them sounding compressed. But the PTMM download is just defective. You have to turn it up to extremely high volume just to hear it at a normal listening level. And then it sounds just as compressed--thin and trebly with no bottom end at all.
