Anyone besides me see comparisons with Paul & Alejandro Escovedo? AE writes great songs. Has the rocker mentality but can play the soft ones as well. Has an artists well being like Paul.
If you dont know who he is go check him out.

I'm a pretty big Alejandro fan. I saw him live a year or so back doing an acoustic gig with his guitar player and violinist. Got to meet him afterwards ever so briefly.
Yeah, I can see how one would compare the two. Both started out with the punk thing. Rank and File and The Mats definitely would've appealed to similar audiences back in the day. Both have excelled at the heart-on-sleeve songwriting and both are criminally underappreciated.

When I saw The Replacements at Liberty Lunch in Austin on the PTMM tour, Escovedo joined them onstage for "Gary's Got A Boner"...

Thats very cool. When I saw PW at Liberty Lunch I think in 1993, Bob Mould went up on stage and played I Wanna Be Your Dog.
Paul said something like "I hear Bob is in the house". Bob was at the back and walked thru the crowd to the stage.

Yeah, a friend of mine was there and told me about it...I was kinda bummed because it would have been pretty easy for me to make that show and I didn't...I think Mould was living in Austin at the time, and maybe still does...

I've heard his name mentioned a lot but never got around to checking him out. Where's the best place to start (2-3 first-pick albums)?

I've heard his name mentioned a lot but never got around to checking him out. Where's the best place to start (2-3 first-pick albums)? I would start with: Gravity - His first solo record and still my all-time fave. Some great rockers, heartbreaking folkers with some roots and country touches throughout. Not a bad song in the bunch really. A lost classic if you ask me. After that I'd maybe go Real Animal, The Boxing Mirror, Street Songs of Love... You really can't go wrong with any of his solos records.

Yes those are all great. Check out "With These Hands" and he had a rock band in the middle of it all called, Buick MacKane
Back in the 80's we would go see him and his brothers in the True Believers.
He is still rocking it at 61. Im not sure if its posted but try and find his latest visit to Leno. It was last week. Straight up rock.

Alejandro and the Sensitive Boys are playing the Bluebird in Denver tonight with Jesse Malin (who I still have yet to develop a taste for), and if I can get out early enough I'm going. AE and PW definitely share some music DNA.
