Can someone help me out? I've found photos, mentions, stories...but can't seem to get the actual location. I think it was on the `mats virtual tour site but that seems to be down.
Seems like it was in a park South West of Uptown?
Thanks.

Hey Jer, my girlfriend and I visited MPLS in February of this year and we walked all around Lake Calhoun trying to find it, checking every memorial plaque. Eventually we found it was close but actually off Lake of the Isles. I marked it on a google map for you. Here is the actual location: Some pictures I took of where it sits, near the overpass leading out to Lake of the Isles in the lower right side you will see it: It's cheesy, but I wanted to listen to Bastards of Young at the spot.

Thanks! Heading to mpls to see some friends, do some record shopping, and see Justin Townes Earle tomorrow night. The bench is one of the very few things I haven't seen. Hoping to make it over there. Appreciate the help!

Found the bench right off - thanks for the tips. Really nice setting, beautiful. Sad to see that one of the boards is split and definitely in need of repair. Got a bit misty thinking about Bob and the good ol' days. My buddy who's lived there for the last couple decades +, and who went with me and helped me find it, told me about how he was scolded by Bob at Roadrunner Records for buying the Twin Tone reissue of Let it Be on blue vinyl. "Anything to sell a few more copies." Bob said. And I remembered how Bob was complaining when I met him in Schoolkids Records in Ann Arbor that he just wanted to be left alone. Funny to choose to hang out in a crowded indie record store next door to the sold out theater you're about to play at in an hour when you're looking to be left alone.
Then I showed my friend the Let it Be house. Joked that I would buy it if it were for sale and find some way to explain it to my wife back in Michigan. A noon pint at the CC Club then an afternoon of record shopping around Mpls & St Paul before seeing Justin Townes Earle at the Varsity Theater last night. Great venue in Dinkytown, comfortable and nice but still rock & roll, and possibly the best sound I have ever heard at a show.

Glad to hear you had a good time at the JTE show Jer. I wanted to go as it was my daughter's last day of class at the U of M and it would've worked out perfectly to pick her up and then catch the show, but my trumpet playing son had his last band concert of the year in high school so I couldn't miss that. How about those bathrooms at The Varsity? I think that's my favorite venue for a show.

Super nice bathrooms. Can't vouch for the men's, but the women's was nice. I went up there and didn't see any signage so I thought - "How contemporary - unisex cans!" and meandered into one just vacated by an attractive young woman. Did my business, even put the seat back down, walked out and towards the stairs when I saw the signage and realized I had just desecrated the women's toilets! I was courteous and my aim was true, despite the double Maker's Marks I was pounding. My local friends got a good chuckle out of that.

Ha, hilarious story about the rest rooms!
very cool, Jer....I have yet to make the trek out to Minne from the east coast. Closet I ever got was probably Ann Arbor, MI, visiting relatives; didn't have time to drive to Minne and then get back to MD/DC area.

Closet I ever got was probably Ann Arbor, MI, visiting relatives; didn't have time to drive to Minne and then get back to MD/DC area. Well, AA was kinda their second, adopted home for a while. They did very well there early on with great support from UofM radio and a great venue in Joe's Star Lounge. Paul's first wife was from AA, she worked at Schoolkids Records when they met, and the opening show of the DTAS tour was in Ann Arbor. But Minneapolis is a must-visit for mats fans. I've been there dozens of times but I still feel like it's a bit of a pilgrimage every time and always try to make it a point to stop in at the CC Club.
