Absolutely fantastic! Yes, Jer, I agree- very much looks like Cash, Haggard, Owens and Campbell. And Paul looks great. Wow- COOL!!

Great things about this video...let's list them, if anyone wants to add anything:
1. Glen doing a beautiful version of PW's song - if only this wasn't supposed to be Glen's last album, I'd love to hear him do a full album of PW songs; it seems he can do any song justice, and his voice has held up so well! (He did this song at least as great as PW if not better. I need to hear PW's again to check, but I'll probably just love them both, since there's no need to choose. But there's this other singer...and Glen most certainly sang their song better than them.)
2. Great visual B of Y reference
3. PW participating in the B of Y reference!
4. An LP by the Box Tops in the crate on the right! Great job, Paul (I'm assuming it was him, of course). Big Star's Third might fit the mood of this song better, but you can't go wrong with a Box Tops record, either!

I think my favorite thing about this song is that it's so true to Glen's signature sound. The feedback opening sounds like a nod to Wichita Lineman and the strings, melody and arrangement woudn't sound at all out of place next to By The Time I Get to Phoenix or Where's the Playground Suzy. Glen is going out on a high note. But read the liner notes to the record and try to tell me you don't get a lump in your throat. Powerful stuff.

Any Trouble made my wife cry. She didn't know nothing about PW writing it so no extra layer of context, just a pure response to the singer and the song.

It's just great to see Paul making an appearance....and over on some Campbell board, I didn't pick up on it at first, but it's Paul who is doing the painting.
I agree with Jer, that knowing what we now know about Glen's condition, those songs and everything take on a greater poignancy.
landshark- yes, "Any Trouble" is another poignant tune as well and I can see how it would move your wife. Glen's got a great singing voice and Paul's melody and lyrics are just perfect.

www.startribune.com/entertainment/music/133173863.html'Ghost' writer Here are three names I.W. never thought would be mentioned in the same sentence: Paul Westerberg, Glen Campbell and Ellen DeGeneres. Westerberg, who has been out of the public eye for five years, makes a surprising yet typically coy cameo in the video for the title track of Campbell's new album, "Ghost on the Canvas." The video actually starts off as a a homage to the Replacements' classic "Bastards of Young" clip, with Westerberg playing the part of the dude loafing on the couch, staring at the stereo speaker. He reappears throughout the video, too. The Minneapolis music hero's involvement makes sense because he wrote "Ghost" for Campbell. Here's where things really get six-degrees odd: The video, co-directed by ex-Minneapolitan Kii Arens -- late of the band Flipp and now a L.A. graphic artist -- made its debut Tuesday on DeGeneres' website, preceding an appearance by Campbell on "Ellen." Campbell, who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's, will be honored at the Country Music Awards on Wednesday in a tribute segment featuring Brad Paisley, Keith Urban and Vince Gill. Apparently, Westerberg wasn't invited to that one. --CHRIS RIEMENSCHNEIDER

nice photo!...and what great planning by the director and all to give that homage to the Mats. It's just great to see Paul again, even though he dislikes doing videos.

Did Paul really write the song for Glen Campblell like the comments say? I find that a bit hard to believe, since he released it himself in 2009.
"...because he wrote "Ghost" for Campbell."
Either way, it's great to see Paul involved in music, even if it's not his own release. Maybe he'll throw something our way now too. Fingers crossed.

It's possible. I'm not sure when he sent word to Campbell's manager that he'd like to be his Jimmy Webb or something---wasn't that after "Sadly Beautiful" was chosen to be covered by Campbell? And yeah, while Paul recorded it and released it himself, it's quite possible it was sent to Campbell along with a bunch of other tunes.

If this song wasn't written for Glen, it sure fits perfectly.
"I know a place between life and death" - Alzheimers "Ghost on the Canvas" - After death, nobody remembers who you truly were, all they know is a picture.
After singing "Like a Ghost on the Canvas" multiple times and ending it with "I'm the Ghost on the Canvas" gets me every time.
This whole thing reminds me of the Johnny Cash "Hurt" video. Not written by him, but it's his song forever. Glen has made this song his.

blogs.villagevoice.com/music/2011/08/paul_westerberg_interview_glen_campbell_replacements.php"Both your contributions to his album, "Ghost On The Canvas" and "Any Trouble," sound like they were written just for Glen. Especially after you heard the news about him having Alzheimer's. They both seem to be about death and where you might go afterwards. Was that deliberate? No, not at all. One song is about two years old. The other is from the late '90s. Glen did my tune "Sadly Beautiful" on his last record, but I'm still surprised when anyone wants to do something of mine. Even if I tailor a song, it rarely works out how I planned it. Like, I'd love to tell you that "Dyslexic Heart" was written for [the Cameron Crowe movie] Singles, but it was just a nice accident. Like this." Also, he said in MOJO: "the writer is a suicidal maniac who talks to Van Gogh in his sleep".

I was upset that Ghost On The Canvas was not mentioned in this year's Grammys until I read that only albums released between Oct. 1, 2010 and Sept. 30, 2011 fall within the qualifying period. I wonder how Mumford & Sons got nominated for their song “The Cave” from the album “Sigh No More”; it was released in February 2010? Anyway, maybe GOTC will be nominated in 2013. So this year, my vote goes to Kanye Twitty! P.S. Paul does look mighty fine in that video **** Oops! GOTC did qualify. The release date was August 29, 2011! Still...if they can put Mumford & Sons in this year, maybe they will do the same for Glen next year.

i wonder if this song is getting any radio play? It doesn't seem to be very commercial. It's certainly not aiming at the lowest common denominator.
