Oh yeah, is there any text besides lyrics in that special edition? I was wondering if I should have made that a choice in the Best Liner Notes poll.
I remember seeing that on the shelf behind the counter and thinking, "$30! I'm shamefaced enough just shelling out for the regular one--what kind of loser buys that thing?" (I took a little vacation from Paul fandom and music in general in the 90s ... a vacation I'm glad is over)

I think CFMT might get some significant air play, at least here in Mpls. I've already heard "Making Me Go" three times, and every time the DJ says something like "a great new song from the twin cities own Paul Westerberg" (talking about Drive 105). It's perhaps more than a little ironic that a little over two years ago the same station fired the staff including Paul's own sister and switched the format to "rhythmic gold". Only to return to "alternative" months later (unfortunately without the return of Mary Lucia). (The story: www.citypages.com/databank/22/1058/article9435.asp)

This is another attempt to lobby for printed lyrics -- Anyone who hasn't read this website thinks on Wild and Lethal he's saying something like "I'm mild deep dough" and missing an important part of the song. And equal chance of understanding Soldier of Misfortune and Pine Box. Maybe it made more sense in the old days (not to print lyrics) (because it just didn't matter as much and maybe there weren't as many subtleties), but he's probably a better writer now and the lyrics really deserve to be understood. And I think his fans deserve it. And it would probably help sales (which is not always a bad thing).
What's O.C.?

Besides lyrics, it had some photos and some hand printed sheets were track sequencing, etc was being done, along with some credits for each song. I've made more foolish purchases.

I had the same thought when the 14 songs booklet came out I'm a proud new owner of one of those 14 Songs books - bought on eBay - maybe from one of you? Anyway I'm glad I bought it, maybe someday I can get it signed too. p.s. I thought the lyric was "wild and lethal, I'm migh-ty though"

"The other day I was thinking how cool of an experiment it would be for Paul to remake some of his albums. He could bang out a remake of Don't Tell A Soul in his basement and then go into some multi-million dollar studio with Mutt Lange to remake Come Feel Me Tremble. It would be an interesting lesson, that's for sure."
this would be a GREAT idea for some future dvd experiment.

As you can see, I had problems with this song a while back and it bugged me because I liked the song so much but couldn't work out this line. I think I understand why Paul's against printing lyrics (having just finally seen the Bastards of Young and The Ledge videos, on the All For Nothing cd, I think it's about keeping the songs pure.), but it would be nice to have the lyrics.

i am a big fan of making the lyrics up when i don't know them and/or changing them to suit me (i.e. the song "kodachrome," i always sing it jodachrome. . . because my name is jodi chromey).
anyway, it's more fun to guess than to have it all spelled out for you, don't you think?

Oops. That was supposed to go in the Wild and Lethal discussion. But I'm not very good at this. I might put something there and tell people to look here, if they care.
I tend to think the great Paul W., Songwriter, writes better lyrics than I can come up with. I mean, what if I never knew this W&L line? My life just wouldn't have been complete. But really, without it, the song just ain't the same. Do you remember what people were guessing before: I'm Mao and Tito, I'm a wild dingo.

I love not knowing the lyrics but sometimes it does get under my skin when I can't nail one. But on the whole I'd rather just let it be whatever I want it to be and you have to love some of the things people come up with. Jodi, you mention Kodachrome - a friend of mine said his wife always thought it was "chromosome", which cracks me every time I think her singing - "baby don't take my chromosome away"

"Bacon and ciggarettes/ makes a lousy dinner". Paul swears he never sang this and if he never came out and said differently most of us would have missed the (brilliant) "fingernails and cigarettes". Note to self: tone down the obsession.

The band sitting on a couch. The band standing around a couch. The high point is when Slim puts on his flannel shirt. Paul's opinion of vids is pretty clear.

The "Alex Chilton" video was the exact same video as "The Ledge." It was similar to the videos for Tim, where the "The Bastards of Young" video, was almost identical to the ones for "Hold My Life," "Left of the Dial," etc.. Bastards of Young is still a great video. Probably the best FU to the music video ever.

I wonder why "seen your Video" was never made into a video! Would have loved the irony.

What's O.C.?[/quote]
The O.C. is a teen melodrama on Fox that, very surprisingly, has great taste in music. Mr. Rabbit was featured in one episode, Ben Folds was in last week's, and The Shins have had a couple mentions.
It's another case of Paul's fans in Hollywood doing their best to get him out there...
