Everyday phrases find their way into a lot of Westerberg's lyrics, usually with a twist or new emphasis that makes them his own or funny or intriguingly odd.
What phrases from PW have found their way back into your everyday speech?
Here's one, maybe a bad example: "Ya don't gotta." Not that original, not even a lyric, just something he says on Shit Hits the Fans.

"Your guess is as bad as mine." One of my favorites. I also titled a screenplay after that phrase.

"well a person can work up a mean, mean thirst after a hard day of nothing much at all" - when leaving for happy hour at 3pm on a Friday
"all my life, waiting for somebody" - when getting impatient about something
"write you a letter tomorrow, tonight I can't hold a pen" - when telling someone I got their email but can't get to them right away
"feeling like a hundred bucks" and"I feel better than yesterday but worse than tomorrow" - when hungover
"why don't you get a haircut sister" - to my friends that need a haircut
"cigarette for breakfast, had an airplane ride for lunch" - when traveling with co-workers
"don't worry it's only Tuesday" - I read once that Bob Stinson said that alot, even when it wasn't Tuesday
I've tried to give proper credit for the quotes but most of my younger co-workers don't get it and/or don't care so they probably think I'm just an weired old dude.
Great topic, I never realized how many I use...

I've also used, "too damn weak to do it myself" when someone holds the door for me or something

I've used "leap of faith, or a jump of stupid" many times.

'Feeling like a hundred bucks'!! Hands down use this one all of the time and always get the same confused look in return.

Usually when I get into a certain mood, and have people over, and beer, I'll crank up the Mats at some point. As they sit there looking bored I'll yell, "Twenty minutes of this!"

"It's a wonderful lie". It's fitting far too often.
From the same song, I will somtimes tell an ailing friend to try an amphetamine and a crushed rat's brain.

So many...as of late:
My wedding day shot with the groomsmen " here's to a leap of faith or a jump of stupid..either way, don't know what I'm doing"
answering the question " are you ready" regarding become a father " I'm NOT ready as I'll ever be"
"I suppose your guess is as bad as mine"
there are many many other funny ones.. I guess Paul just speaks to the everyday man in a funny way!!
