What are all the songs or occasions where PW has written songs with someone else or for someone else?
Categories: A. Co-wrote song(s) with B. Gave help on song(s) C. Got help on song(s) D. Wrote together (no resulting songs) E. Wrote song(s) for F. Performed song(s) with
Then there's a list of people: 1. Goo Goo Dolls 2. Marianne Faithful 3. Joan Jett 4. Bob Mould 5. Carole King 6. Tommy Stinson 7. Chris Mars 8. Tom Waits 9. (more...)
I guess it's like a mix-n-match puzzle ...

Wasn't First Glimmer For Robin Zander?

Songs like "First Glimmer", "Born For Me", "Black-Eyed Susan, "Angels Walk" were obviously written for someone important in the man's life. I never thought about trying to find out for whom because-- I guess because like all great songs they are express something universal. Each of the four songs I listed mean something to me about specific people in my life. Most likely to you also, right? Yes, Paul is such a great song writer. Makes me yearn for more... but "we've through that a hundred times or more". (Ian Tyson/Neil Young)
Sorry- excuse my rambling. Despite what I've said, it would be interesting to hear answers to wecantgetanybetter's question.

Paul & Robin Zander did collaborate and the song was a b-side for a single from Zander's solo record. I asked Robin about it once. He told me he flew to Minneapolis to meet Paul and go over some ideas. He got to Paul's house and Paul's wife had just moved out. Not a piece of furniture in the place. But he said he love's Paul's music and was really happy to work with him.
He's also writing for Glen Campbell now. There were a slew of guests on ASD that could be added as (F) Performed with, most notably Johnette Napolitano and John Cale. Laurie Lindeed could be added to the list - Paul helped her on that last Zuu's Pedals record, but I'm not sure he actually got credit. She sang on 14 songs too.

I believe he said he wrote "Runaway Wind" for Robin Zander to sing. He also got thrown together with Carole King by the record label to write songs for someone....

Terry Reid? Also, I think Paul realy really wanted to be associated with Tori Amos at one point. Didn't he say that he wanted to be her piano bench in an old interview back in the 90's?

The most interesting:
D. Wrote together (no resulting songs)
answer 5. Carole King.
I wonder where those songs are?

The Leatherwoods need to be added. They were a band on Twin-Tone in the latter days of the label, and included future Jayhawks drummer Tim O'Reagan. Paul co-wrote a few songs on the album under a pseudonym, and also played guitar and some background vocals.

OK.That was my second guess. Thanks for clarifying.Just glad to know that there was a Zander connection and that I wasn't randomly making things up.That's what conjecture ABOUT the facts is for,but I like to keep the facts in tact.

I believe "What a Day For Night" may have been partially written with someone, maybe Carole King. When CFMT came out, I remember Paul saying something along the lines that he had to be very careful in talking about that song lest he get sued.

I think this is the collaberation between PW and Zander; my swiss cheese memory is keeping me from remembering where I came across the link (was it on this board?).

Paul wrote What a Day with hopes of selling it to Bonnie Raitt. Don’t know why anyone would sue him over it though.

I believe he said in an interview that it dates back from the Suicaine days, so technically Capitol could make a claim for it.

“Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings,” by Lucinda Williams is a tribute to PW. If you havn't heard this, its a rocker! Great lyrics as well
